Chapter 410
Let’s Make Purified Water
Last time, Jarrett, a friend of Brother Chris, made the purified water for us, but this time I have to do it myself.
The problem is, I don’t know the spell for purified water.
I copied an advanced recovery magic book from the stone slate’s [Library] and started reading it.
“Hey, Reinhardt, do you actually know how to make purified water?”
Floria looked flustered.
“Last time, Brother Chris’s friend made it, and I just concentrated it. I can’t just make it at random, so I figured I’d check properly, just in case.”
“Is that really okay?”
“Maybe?”
I reply to Floria while flipping through the book.
As I kept turning the pages, the purified water spell appeared.
I repeated the incantation quietly to myself several times.
“Alright, I’ve got it.”
I poured water into the large stockpot using water magic, then added Clarl’s liquid to it.
Then I stuck one hand into the pot and chanted the spell, and the water started to sparkle.
Looks like it worked.
“Hey, Meyer. Is Reinhardt always like this?”
While I was wearing a satisfied expression, Floria whispered to Meyer.
“Yes. He always jumps straight in. This time, at least he checked the spell beforehand, so I’d say this is better than usual.”
“Advanced magic… Normally, you can’t just cast it and have it work, right?”
“And yet, that’s exactly what Young Master Reinhardt can do.”
Those two might think they’re whispering, but I can hear everything perfectly.
I made four stockpots’ worth of purified water. Then, to make a 20x concentration, I pleaded with the Tree of Life to give me at least eight leaves. Leaves started fluttering down.
I picked them up and countedk them—ten.
Two extras, huh. Thank you very much.
“Young Master Reinhardt, last time it was a 10x concentration, wasn’t it? Why 20x this time?”
Meyer seemed curious.
“I think I can manage 20x, and it feels like it’ll cover a wider area.”
“Just saying you think you can do it is impressive enough, but we are going to two locations. Including the route between them, a wide area does make sense.”
“Right? And since you’re using wind magic, Meyer, I figure you’ll be busy along the way too.”
“There are fewer wind magic users than last time. It looks like your escort will be left to Wilson and the others.”
Meyer gave a wry smile.
The 20x concentration process also went smoothly, and the purified water turned milky white.
That’s everything I needed to prepare.
While we’re getting dinner ready and setting up the tents as we waited for Brother Gerald and the others to return, Atre and his group came back, so I released the defensive barrier.
“I’m back!” Atre returned in a great mood.
Ciel and Kamui looked satisfied too, so they must have taken down a lot of monsters.
When I asked Atre, he told me they defeated a Black Spider, an Ice Spider, a Minotaurus, and a group of Musts.
After a while, Brother Gerald and the others return as well.
“Man, there were a lot of them. If it keeps up like this tomorrow, we might slow down because of all the hunting.”
“Huh? Wasn’t it just a group of Musts?”
Apparently, all the monsters Atre mentioned were groups.
Still, the only one Brother Gerald and the others really got seriously involved with was the Musts. The rest were mostly handled by Atre, Ripka, Ciel, and Kamui.
“Luan did great this time too.”
It seems Luan told Brother Gerald in advance, through Ripka, what kinds of monsters were coming and how many, which helped a lot.
“Oh, so Luan can do long-range scouting too.”
When I ask Luan why she hadn’t used it until now, Atre told me that since everyone said they wanted to focus on hunting today, Luan decided to handle it herself.
“From tomorrow on, Luan, I’m counting on you. You’re a huge help.”
When I said that, Luan quietly disappeared.
“Huh? Why did she vanish?”
According to Atre, she said she was going to check if the surrounding area was safe.
I mean, she doesn’t have to go now, starting tomorrow would be fine…
Well, if Luan’s motivated, I guess that’s fine.
The next day, we headed deeper into the Great Forest, taking two Alraunes with us.
Up to a point, we passed through areas where Brother Gerald and Atre’s group already cleared monsters, but then we started running into nothing but snakes.
“Hardt, Luan says a 20-meter Zumiya is heading this way.”
Atre reported.
“Captain Kyle, it seems a 20-meter Zumiya is approaching us.”
Brother Gerald passed the information on to Captain Kyle.
Looks like he heard it through Ripka.
A Zumiya has scales as hard as a dragon’s, mithril swords can’t cut them, and even magic gets repelled.
It snares prey with its long tongue and swallows them whole, so you have to blind it and cut its tongue first before wearing it down. It’s a real pain to deal with.
“Kamui, this is your turn. When you fought Grandfather, he took down a Zumiya, right? This time, you should do it.”
The moment I said that, Kamui took off running.
“Hardt, you’re provoking Kamui too much. You should’ve said that after blinding the Zumiya.”
Brother Gerald scolded me as we chased after Kamui.
There’s no way I could have expected Kamui to charge in all by himself, okay~
