Savai Village Sports Festival (4)
“Here is the final question. How many types of bread do people usually buy? 1: Two types, 2: Three types, 3: Five types. Move to the number you think is correct.”
Fifteen seconds passed and Damian blew the whistle.
The knights used ropes to block participants from moving to other spots.
One and two had a lot of people. Three had only two.
“The correct answer is… number 3, five types.”
“Eh!” “No way!” “That can’t be right!”
People around us were voicing their doubts.
“Actually, two types and five types are only one vote apart.”
“People who chose two types often buy one more type along with the bread they eat every day. Those who chose five types seem to want different flavors each day.”
Once I explained, everyone seemed convinced.
Personally, I figured the five-type answers came from wealthier homes or single people.
“Both people who chose number 3 are from the green team, so the green team wins.”
All competitions were now over, so it was time for the closing ceremony.
From Rosetta: “I will now announce today’s winning team. The winning team is the green team.”
A huge cheer rose from the green team.
As their representative, Brother Hubert stepped onto the stage, and I presented the prize: a wall-mounted calendar.
It wasn’t made with black lacquer or rainbow fish, but it was a nice wooden calendar for village use.
After the presentation, Rosetta added:
“There is one for each person, so after dismissal, members of the green team should remain in this area to receive their prizes before heading home.”
The green team erupted in an even louder cheer.
Brother Hubert also gave a short message.
“This is the result of everyone working together. Let’s all praise each other for today. It was fun. Good work, everyone.”
The green team celebrated,
“Today was fun!” “You were a great leader!” “We did it!”
Finally, from me:
“Everyone, thank you for your hard work. Even though the events were unfamiliar, you all joined in with everything you had, and that made the day lively and enjoyable. Thank you.”
I was glad everyone seemed satisfied with the sports festival.
At night, a fire was lit in the center of the square like a campfire, and everyone ate petit-barley dishes and the large pancakes that had been offered earlier, all prepared by the village beforehand.
The Erik family from the Erik Bakery of Zwei Town came over to us and bowed.
“Did something happen?”
“No, it’s about the survey. We never imagined hearing customers’ honest opinions would make us this happy.”
“We were so glad people said they liked the taste of our bread, not the price.”
“Since that was the most common opinion, we picked the top three answers and used them for the quiz…”
“But even so, hearing it while participating… something just welled up inside us. We wanted to thank you for giving us this opportunity.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
“And… we’re sorry, but among the bread you bought, the soft bread… we would like everyone to have it here as a treat from the bakery.”
“We’ll return the money to you, so could you let us provide it?”
“Alright. I’ll tell Edgar to stop by again on his way back from Lux Village, so could you give me today’s share then?”
“Really?”
“Thank you so much.”
I had Georges take a large amount of soft bread out of the Magic Bag.
The bakery family each took huge baskets filled with soft bread and began handing them out to the villagers.
“Thank you for letting us join today!”
“Come visit us in Zwei Town!”
Everyone said such things as they handed bread out.
“Hardt, the sports festival is fun.”
“Thinking up strategies together was fun.”
“Are there other events too?”
“I’m glad we joined from the start. If we came halfway, I think it would have been hard to blend into the team.”
“Will the Westland employees do this too?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“We can’t do it with everyone.”
If we were going to do it, it’d have to be with everyone…
The next day, the village chief and all the villagers came to see us off.
The village chief told me that they wanted to hold a sports festival every year at the harvest festival, so they wanted to buy equipment.
Apparently this was the opinion of the whole village.
When I tried to give them the equipment we used this time, Floria stopped me.
She said we should give them a more durable, improved version instead.
We said we’d contact them later, then left Savai Village.
