Next is the tug of war.
The team leaders drew lots, and the winner would be decided in a tournament format.
First match: Brother Gerald’s orange team versus Brother Isaac’s pink team.
The orange team placed strong-looking people at the front and back, with the children toward the rear.
The pink team placed strong-looking people at the front, with the children around the middle.
“Ready!”
“Beep!”
The whistle blew and the tug of war began.
The rules were that a team wins by pulling the rope so the red cloth tied to it moves 1.5 meters to their side, or if three minutes pass without a decision, whichever side the red cloth is closer to the center decides the winner.
Elderly people and others not participating shouted encouraging calls, and the rope barely moved back and forth in a seesaw struggle.
Just as the three-minute mark approached, someone on the pink team lost their footing, and the orange team seized the moment and pulled all at once. The whistle sounded, “Beep,” ending the match.
“Orange team wins!”
The orange team celebrated with high fives all around.
The person who lost balance on the pink team apologized repeatedly, saying, “Sorry, sorry,” to their teammates.
“Don’t worry about it.”
“Three minutes was longer than I expected.”
“My hands hurt and I couldn’t grip anymore, so it wasn’t just because you fell.”
They encouraged each other like that.
I’m glad no one said anything mean.
Next was Brother Chris’s blue team versus Brother Hubert’s green team.
The blue team had a very strong-looking person in the very back, wrapping the rope around their body, and the men were gathered toward the front.
The green team also had strong people at the front, but the children were placed between the adults toward the middle and back.
“Ready!”
“Beep!”
The whistle blew and they began pulling.
At first, the green team made a strong start and pulled the rope toward their side, but gradually the blue team pushed back and held their lead to the end.
“Blue team wins!”
The final match was orange team versus blue team.
“Ready!”
“Beep!”
At the whistle, neither side yielded, and the rope barely moved.
However, little by little it shifted toward the orange team.
“Orange team wins!”
The orange team dropped the rope, slapped each other’s backs, and high-fived.
Points for tug of war: first place receives five points, second receives three, and both teams eliminated in the first round receive one point.
Next is not the Centipede Race, but the Skolo Race.
There are no centipedes in this world, so they used the name Skolo from the centipede-like monster, making it the Skolo Race.
Skolo are much larger than centipedes, though…
Like the Three-Legged Race, the second group in the Skolo Race waits on the opposite side and may start once they receive the baton.
For this event, the final result is determined by which team’s last person crosses the line first.
The knights struggled with this event.
It likely won’t go as smoothly as the Three-Legged Race.
“Huh, all the women’s teams are wearing pants.”
“They practiced and realized skirts made it difficult, so they went home and changed.”

“Are those reserved items?”
“Not yet. We have 300 table calendars and 200 wall calendars.”
