We Are of the Same Kind
Canal and the Golden Wings said they would go on to Lux Village with Edgar.
Canal and Will had gotten their wall calendars.
“Hardt, that was fun. The large pancakes, the petit-barley dishes, the soft petit-barley bread… there are so many foods out there that I never knew about.”
“You were on the winning team, so it looks like you got a wall calendar.”
“Yes. I think my family will be happy,” Canal said with a smile.
Golden Wings also spoke up.
“This time, we were truly lucky.”
“We need to thank the Adventurers’ Guild.”
“Please call us as your guards again whenever there will be delicious food in the future.”
“Allie.”
“Linka, even the large pancake was good, and none of the dishes were misses.”
“Well, yes, but…”
“Golden Wings is basically recognized by the Adventurers' Guild as being exclusively tied to our household, so whenever you’re in the capital, you’ll probably get called.”
“Even so, if we ask Young Master Reinhardt directly, he’ll remember us when something comes up.”
“Allie, stop that. Young Master Reinhardt, I apologize.”
Their leader, Salem, gently scolded Allie.
“No, it’s fine. That’s just how Allie is.”
“You’re not praising me, are you.”
Brother Gerald, Brother Isaac, and Brother Hubert galloped back to the mansion on horseback and parted ways with us at the entrance of Savai Village so they could head straight to the royal capital.
Since Brother Chris had graduated from the academy, he spent about a month preparing in Westland and said he’d go to the Ducal House afterward, so he traveled back with us as well.
When we returned to the mansion, I told Raziel about providing ninety-two wall calendars as festival prizes.
“What are the play tools used at Savai Village’s festival?”
He said nothing about the wall calendars.
“Uhh… were you not there when the knights did the practice run?”
“I was away at the time. I heard about it later.”
“Savai Village said they want to buy the equipment used this time, so I was hoping to discuss it.”
“We’ve already received orders from your friends, Young Master Reinhardt.”
Raziel’s inner voice—”You keep creating work on your own again”—practically rang in my head.
I had no idea everyone had already placed orders.
Where were they planning to use all that?
Since Floria had said she wanted to improve the tools used at the festival, I asked Raziel to introduce me to a workshop, then left the Merchants’ Guild office quickly.
“Reinhardt, the abacus arrived!”
“““Abacus?”””
Floria’s voice drew reactions from Raphael, Brigitte, and Dianne.
Floria began a lesson for Raphael, Brigitte, Dianne, Damian, Rosetta, Rosa, and me—seven in total.
It was an abacus class.
This abacus was shorter than the one from my previous life, and the beads in the fifth column from the right were painted white.
She apparently ordered them from the Howl Workshop, but I was impressed they managed to get the beads made evenly.
“First, I’ll explain the terminology.”
There were five beads vertically: one upper bead worth five, and four lower beads worth one. The divider between the upper and lower beads was the beam.
“The columns from the far right represent: iron coins, copper coins, silver coins, gold coins, and platinum coins.”
So the platinum coin column used white beads.
“If you want to show one iron coin, raise one lower bead on the far right. For three copper coins and six iron coins, raise three lower beads in the second column from the right, and for six iron coins, lower the upper bead on the far right and raise one lower bead.”
Everyone seemed to understand so far.
“Now let’s calculate. One iron coin + two iron coins + three iron coins… up to ten iron coins. How much is it?”
“Five copper coins and five iron coins.”
“Next: three copper coins two iron coins + five copper coins four iron coins + seven copper coins six iron coins. How much?”
“One silver coin, four copper coins, four iron coins.”
As Floria continued giving questions and answers, everyone got the hang of it.
“My mental math errors will probably decrease.”
“I used to write everything down to calculate, but this will save time.”
“I’ll buy one.” ““I’ll buy one too.””
Then Floria and I were summoned by Raziel.
There was an abacus on the table.
“I was not informed about this.”
Last time he had shown open anger, but this time his calm low voice was even scarier.
“Raziel, this makes calculations easier.”
“That’s right. Once everyone at the Merchants’ Guild learns it, work will get even more efficient.”
We desperately tried to justify ourselves.
“We tested it at the Merchants’ Guild as well, and it does seem to make calculations easier.”
“Right?” “It’s convenient, isn’t it?” we said, relieved at Raziel’s evaluation.
“But if you don’t inform me before making prototypes, I can’t prepare in time.”
“Sorry.” “I’m sorry.”
We slumped on the sofa and bowed our heads.
“I had thought Miss Floria would act as a stopper for Young Master Reinhardt, but it seems the two of you are the same type.”
He let out a long, heavy sigh.
“Raziel, I can’t accept that. I don’t act on impulse like Reinhardt does.”
She clearly disliked being called the same type as me.
“No, you immediately understand Young Master Reinhardt’s sudden ideas and help bring them to life. That makes you the same type.”
“Haah… Raziel is scary when he’s angry.”
Back in the administrative office, Floria lay on her desk.
“He’s strict with me, but he’s gentlemanly with everyone else.”
“That’s because you cause him so much trouble. I’m just getting dragged into it.”
Arguing here was pointless, so I got back to work.
