A Family Discussion
Brother Gerald later told me the details about Lady Suzanna.
Lord Kevin, who had once told us he would settle things, had already spoken with Lady Suzanna’s family. He explained all the things she had done to Southcourt, and they had agreed that Lady Suzanna would retire quietly to an estate within their domain.
Yet despite that, she came to the party this time because she learned Young Lady Diana had gotten engaged. She wanted to spread rumors that Southcourt was slighting her by not inviting her, as a way to tarnish Southcourt’s reputation.
But then why cause a scene at a private party?
If she wanted to make trouble, shouldn’t she have done it at a gathering of high-ranking nobles instead of a private one?
Apparently, because returning to the Southcourt estate in the capital would mean being sent back to the domain, she stayed at a hotel instead and was gathering information about the engagement party. She didn’t seem to have known whether it was private or a high-ranking nobles’ event.
It also seems that within the domain, she wasn’t confined to the manor but was only banned from moving to places like the secondary residence. Because of that, she managed to slip out easily and come to the capital.
Her maid and guards didn’t seem to know about the ban on her entering Southcourt, so they simply followed her orders and brought her straight to the party.
“Isn’t Lady Suzanna’s family being too lenient?”
“True. And there’s a chance Lady Suzanna’s family was cooperating with her, hoping she could inherit Southcourt. That might be why they couldn’t act strongly against her.”
“Why was Lady Suzanna so fixated on Southcourt?”
According to Lord Kevin, during their father’s funeral, Lady Suzanna insulted their father. When Lord Kevin scolded her, she lashed out that he had stolen her inheritance.
“Lady Suzanna and Lord Kevin are ten years apart. She was probably receiving heir education before he was born.”
“So she thinks it’s unfair that she couldn’t inherit, but Young Lady Diana can?”
“We don’t know for sure, since this didn’t come directly from her…”
If Lady Suzanna was ten when Lord Kevin was born, then she would have already begun her successor training.
Since Southcourt has a navy, she probably trained with swords and other things as well.
She may have worked hard believing she would be the heir, but when Lord Kevin was born, their father may have abruptly stopped her training.
As a child, she may have been unable to say anything to her suddenly distant parents, and all the resentment she bottled up was directed at Lord Kevin and his family later on.
“Well, after this incident, it looks like Southcourt intends to sever ties with Lady Suzanna and her family.”
They neglected to monitor her and behaved as if Southcourt were beneath them. It’s understandable.
If they went easy on her now, similar trouble would likely arise again.
After dinner with the family, Father told us he had something to discuss and we all moved to another room.
The butler and maids had cleared the area.
Only family was present (Atre and the others like Lucas were included).
Was this something serious?
Once we finished our tea and matcha roll cake, Father spoke.
“Chrisford’s marriage partner has been decided.”
“Congratulations, Brother.”
“Congratulations, Brother Chris.”
“Thank you.”
Brother Chris answered with a warm smile.
Father cleared his throat.
Realizing we had interrupted him, we fell silent.
“His partner is Her Highness Princess Rinaluna.”
So it has come to that.
It’s partly because I was the one who created the opportunity for the two of them to meet.
But Princess Rinaluna truly seems to care for Brother Chris, and when she puts aside her royal mask, she appears to be a good person.
Well, as long as I’m careful not to let the royal family use me conveniently, things should work out.
“The marriage is planned for two years after Her Highness Princess Rinaluna graduates from the academy. However, the princess will not be marrying into our family. Instead, Chrisford will be adopted into the Grand Duke’s household. Therefore, Reinhardt—you will succeed Westland.”
