Let’s Not Worry About It
The boat that had been net-fishing started heading our way.
I felt like Meyer and the others were beginning to tense up.
“Someone you know on that boat? Former comrades?”
“Yes.”
“Logan is still scary as ever, huh. Well, you guys were drilled hard by him. Hahaha!”
“““Captain.”””
I thought Logan was the big, burly man on one of the three boats, but it turned out I was wrong.
He had black hair and a slim build. For a knight, he was on the smaller side.
“Oh, all of you showing up together? Did you come here to get drilled by me again? Or did you mess up so bad Kyle sent you here as punishment?”
“““No, sir.”””
The three of them have been speaking in perfect unison for a while now.
But he seems like a pretty amusing person.
“Pleased to meet you. You’re Logan, correct? I’m Reinhardt Westland. These three are my assigned knights.”
“My apologies. I didn’t realize you were the son of House Westland. I am Logan, formerly vice-captain of the Third Knights Order. And to my right are Gray and Clark.”
“Marcus, you didn’t tell me the rumored young master was coming here.”
“Rumored?” I repeated.
“Young Master Reinhardt, you’re famous as the master of Fenrir and the White Dragon. It’s an honor to meet both of them as well.” Logan gave a polite nod toward Atre and Lucas.
“Hm, you are courteous. Showing respect toward us is commendable,” Lucas suddenly spoke up, startling everyone.
He rarely speaks of his own accord, so he must have taken a liking to Logan.
“Excuse me, but… the White Dragon can speak?”
“Yes, Mr. Marcus. Atre, the Fenrir, can only communicate with me, but the White Dragon, Lucas, can speak with anyone.”
Though, I added silently, only when he feels like it.
They showed us the fish they caught—about the size of salmon, with scales that gleamed rainbow-colored. Each scale was as big as a thumbnail.
The other fish, called Char, was smaller and resembled trout.
We eat fish at home too, but not often. Transporting it from Southcourt makes it more expensive, so meat is far cheaper.
Fresh fish is a luxury, so I’m looking forward to dinner.
“Were all of them once part of your Knights Order’s unit?”
On the way back from the lake, I asked Marcus.
“Gray and Clark were former adventurers. They left their party after conflicts with their teammates.”
Gray uses earth magic, and Clark uses water magic. When they were looking for a village to settle in, Marcus invited them here.
In a village, people with earth and water magic are very valuable.
When I asked them in detail why they chose Lux Village, they said Marcus and Logan being here was the decisive factor.
With the two of them, they could still enter the forest and be active as adventurers, while also farming crops in the village and living peacefully.
Apparently, it’s rare to have both options, and they live much more comfortably here than in an ordinary village.
Once we returned to the village—
“Mr. Marcus, where could we plant the shrubs Guush like to eat?”
“Wait, you plan to replant the branches we cut earlier?”
“Yes. I have the blessing of the Plant God, so I can at least help this much.”
“Marcus, I don’t quite follow—are we planting shrubs near the village?”
“Ah, I’ll explain in detail later, but Young Master Reinhardt is considering pasturing Guush. That’s why he came.”
We decided to plant them on the north side of the village, near the forest.
Hamilton, Kamuela, and Gray worked hard, digging and loosening the soil.
Meanwhile, Meyer cut the branches we harvested into small pieces of about 30–50 cm.
We mixed slime fertilizer into the loosened soil, then planted the saplings in sets of three, arranged in triangles, with space left between sets to allow room for growth.
“Now then, from here it’s my turn… Guush’s favorite shrubs, grow large!” I poured water over the saplings.
This should be enough for the planting to succeed. The only question is whether Guush will come to eat them.
I turned to everyone.
“Let’s head back to the village.”
Marcus and the others looked stunned.
“Was something strange?” I tilted my head, and Meyer explained:
“I think everyone was surprised because it ended so easily.”
“Captain, Young Master Reinhardt’s blessing is powerful. It’ll be fine,” Marcus reassured them.
… Is my magic strange?
No matter. Best not to dwell on it.
