Chapter 383
With Uncle… (1)
“Hardt, Floria. Guests are coming from the royal capital. Be very careful with your words and actions.”
I was told that our recent conversations have been… risky.
Talking with Floria is easier because she understands the stories of my previous life, so we can consult with each other.
“Who is coming?”
“The people responsible for the exhibition.”
“Royal castle administrators?”
“Yes, and Brother-in-law Davit is coming as their escort.”
“Is this to observe the sweet shop?”
“Yes.”
“Am I supposed to handle it?”
“That will be the case.”
“Is it because I didn’t go to the royal castle?”
“According to Brother-in-law’s letter, they’ll ask questions about the ice cream cups, dry ice, and other matters.”
It’s only been about two weeks since we started selling ice cream at the sweet shop.
Isn’t that a bit soon?
I thought the condition was for us to think of everything ourselves, but…
They must be underestimating our house. Better prepare so they don’t interfere further.
“What about Mignon?”
Floria’s words reminded me of that as well.
What should we do?
Mignon seems to like ribbons and dresses, just like Floria said, and sometimes wears matching outfits with her.
Floria and Mother found it amusing and called Ayla to make dresses and clothes for Mignon.
The seamstresses were apparently charmed by Mignon’s cuteness, and they made a lot.
Mignon was overjoyed to receive her own collection of dresses and one-piece outfits.
Sometimes she even points at the dress she wants the maids to put on her.
And Mignon walks around the mansion on two legs whenever she wears a dress or one-piece.
You’re definitely not a Bear cub, are you?
People in the mansion have vaguely noticed, but no one points it out.
The maids seem to forgive her because she’s cute.
“There’s no point hiding it. She’s not bound by a familiar contract, so we just claim she’s attached to Floria.”
“If it comes down to it, Atre and the others will handle something.”
“Hardt, make sure to persuade Atre and the others not to intimidate them like they did at the royal family party.”
“If the administrators behave properly, it should be fine.”
“Hardt.”
“You are too lenient, Father. Even after all the warnings, they still push their way here.”
Time to think of countermeasures.
Three days later, Uncle Davit and the administrators arrived.
After Father and Uncle exchanged formal noble greetings, Uncle turned to me.
“I apologize for my shortcomings, and thank you for permitting the sweet shop visit.”
“That’s fine. But you came directly without stopping at the inn, was that acceptable?”
The administrators looked surprised at my words.
“When Duke Clondale comes to our territory on official royal business, it’s inappropriate to mix public and private matters, so he stayed at the inn with his subordinates.”
Some administrators looked down, others displeased.
Those with displeased expressions will need watching.
“I’m sorry, I just wanted to make my greetings and apologies.”
Uncle Davit, realizing I was not welcoming them, took his subordinates and rode off to the territory’s capital.
“Hardt, was that alright?”
“Yes. I instructed the coachman to go to the inn the Duke stayed at. Since the inn is reserved, there should be enough rooms.”
The royal side should cover the lodging fees properly.
Uncle may have been forced to yield due to his position, but we have no intention of giving in.
The next day, I sent Damian to the inn to hear their requests.
Let’s see how they respond after yesterday’s handling.
“They said they want to line up and experience the sweet shop themselves,” Damian reported, looking tired.
“Did something happen?”
“Some of them made a fuss at the inn…”
“Was it about the food?”
“Yes, complaining that it’s all we could offer or that the rooms aren’t suitable for nobility.”
Count Northtrad calmed the situation.
The food isn’t bad, and it’s a satisfactory inn for lower nobility.
Did they think making a fuss because they couldn’t stay at our house would improve their treatment?
“Good work. Leave them be until they raise any more issues.”
“Is that alright?”
“They broke the promise. No need for us to act submissive.”
Then a report came from the sweets shop, and I had to go to the inn.
Seeing my face, Uncle Davit bowed, apologizing, “I’m sorry for causing the trouble.”
