It Was Tough
In the end, both Mr. Guido and his son were hired.

However, their jobs would be separate: Mr. Guido was rehired by the Westland household, and his son was employed by the Westland Company.

His son had been traveling through villages as a merchant, and apparently, he had seen the bustling activity in the villages our household had been involved with, which piqued his interest in our family.

He would share responsibilities with Edgar, handling product transport from the villages and acting as a liaison while managing the new town’s specialty store and the local cuisine restaurant.

Fred, who had been involved with the specialty store and restaurant, stepped back, and I assigned him to handle new products I had found in the villages.

Kamuela would manage both the new town’s specialty store and restaurant, as well as coordinating the schedules of employees working in both places.

This should lighten the workload for each person a little, making things easier.

I had hoped Raziel would praise me for finding them so well, but all I got was a report saying they were hired.

From now on, Mr. Guido would oversee the factory we were going to build, the ice cream and dorayaki shops, train employees on cooking, manage quality, and handle orders and inventory.

For now, his focus would be mastering the two sweets and assisting with designing the magical tools and shop layout.

So right now, in the kitchen, the employees responsible for making sweets were nervously being taught by Mr. Guido.

He’s a former head chef, after all. It would be impossible not to be nervous.

“I never expected you to bring in the former head chef. Young Master Reinhardt, that was a brilliant move.”

“Head Chef, I think it was a good idea myself.”

I felt pleased to be praised. Neither my father nor Raziel ever complimented me.

I went to the workshop to discuss designing the magical tools for factory use with Maria.

“Young Master Reinhardt, how will you get Nanally motivated?”

Exactly. We need Nanally to make the magical tools for the ice cream and dorayaki factory and shops. If she’s not motivated, the tools won’t be finished quickly. I learned this from the previous dorayaki project.

“Lure her with ice cream and dorayaki?”

“That’s the only option, isn’t it?”

We called Nanally to the mansion and had her try the ice cream and dorayaki that Mr. Guido had made.

“I want to open several shops so everyone can enjoy these anytime in the capital and Eminira. Will you help?”

“Anytime?”

“Yes, I want to mass-produce them in a factory.”

She didn’t jump at the idea... what now?

“Ice cream ingredients are sometimes seasonal, so if we can’t mass-produce, we won’t open shops.”

“Why?”

“If each shop makes it, it takes time, increases costs, and prices go up.”

“Aha, I’ll help. But if I nod too easily, they’ll think I’m being bribed with food,” she said.

Telling me that actually defeats the purpose. This is part of why she’s hard to dislike.

“If we can sell at affordable prices and still have this taste anytime, then I’ll do it.”

Damian and Rosetta returned from the capital. They looked utterly exhausted… which was strange.

I thought they had been given time off after the report at the royal castle to return home and refresh themselves.

When I asked why they looked so drained, they explained the report at the castle didn’t finish in one day, it took three days.

Three days? It was supposed to be one day.

First, they were bombarded with questions about the exhibition booklet and their notebooks: the heavy card stock used on the front and back of the booklet, the perforations on the notebook pages making them easy to tear, and why the booklet pages were fully printed. They asked who printed them, why pages were numbered by section instead of overall, how illustrations were printed, and so on. Day one ended with questions just about the booklet and notebook.

On day two, after finishing the explanations including the preliminary rounds, they were suddenly asked to show the booklets they had brought, which they handed over. They were questioned about pages containing corrections, why large X marks were drawn across old pages with numbers in the margins, and didn’t even reach the exhibition questions.

On day three, they went through Q&A and reflections before finishing.

“That must have been tough.”

“Yes. I didn’t expect to go to the royal castle three days in a row.”

There were so many questions, and discussions about impressions and advantages of the booklets and notebooks slowed everything down.

“I went four days in a row,” Rosetta said. Princess Rinaluna had called her to a room with female clerks, where she was grilled about uniforms, then taken to the costume department responsible for making uniforms. There, her uniform was removed to examine seams, fabric, and lining. If she hadn’t stopped it, they might have completely undone the uniform. She was only released after being introduced to Ayla’s shop, which also makes uniforms in the capital.

“How did you respond to the booklet printing questions?”

She explained that the drafts were given to the newsletter maker for printing. For page numbering, each department had separate numbering to avoid issues if corrections were made. Both corrected and original pages were included, with large X marks on the originals to indicate they were discarded, and numbers like Discard ①, Discard ② to track multiple revisions. Discarded pages were included for easier verification and inquiry follow-up.

So many questions.

“Brother Chris was with you, right?”

He helped when they almost got sidetracked.

Though apparently, on the third day, his mood was bad from the morning. That’s how they were finally released after three days.

I was lucky I didn’t have to go.
