Interview
The next day.
At the royal capital office of the Maryne Company.
Inside Maryne's office.
Asha arrived and got straight to the point.
"Lady Maryne. Do you have a moment?"
"What is it?"
"I have a friend I'd like to introduce to you."
Asha told her about Selvan.
That he was the fifth son of a viscount's family and was trying to find a path to independence.
That he had extensive connections among the upper class.
And that he had been deeply moved by Air on the G String, and the moment he learned it was a piece released by the Maryne Company, he had declared that he wanted to be hired.
Maryne listened in silence.
All the while petting Firuru on her lap.
"He's the sort of person who can handle just about anything competently. He has experience involving himself in business, but even when talking about art or culture, his arguments are logical and well thought out... I think he has good instincts."
"Hmm."
"The problem is that he doesn't seem very aware of it himself, so he's spent all this time searching for something he can truly devote himself to. I think this is probably another case of that..."
Maryne thought for a while.
(A young man knowledgeable about art, business, noble society, and various other fields, huh? He sounds like quite a promising talent.)
The music business had only just begun.
Sales of sheet music and the New Treatise on Notation were strong, but further expansion would eventually require a dedicated leader.
And not just music.
Painting.
Literature.
Sculpture.
If she intended to turn various forms of art into businesses, she would need someone capable of overseeing the entire operation...
Yet she still hadn't found the right person.
Perhaps he could become that leader.
Or at least a candidate for the position.
"I'd like to speak with him once. Please arrange an interview."
"Understood."
Asha rose from her seat and left the room.

Five days later.
A message arrived from Asha.
The date for the interview had been decided.
From the moment he woke up that morning, Selvan couldn't settle down.
(An interview with an eight-year-old child, huh?)
As the son of a noble family, he should have been accustomed to meetings like this.
And yet...
He felt a fair amount of nervousness.
He was about to meet the person who had brought that piece into the world.
He had no idea what kind of person she would be.
At the appointed time, he visited the royal capital office of the Maryne Company.
He was guided from the reception area on the first floor and led upstairs.
The room he was shown into was a reception room.
It was a calmly furnished space.
Asha was already seated there.
"So you came."
"Yeah."
Selvan sat down across from her.
A short while later, the door opened.
The person who entered was a small girl.
Red hair.
Green eyes.
A white frilled blouse.
A crimson high-waisted skirt.
She was holding a cat-type monster in her arms.
Selvan found himself staring.
(That tiny little girl... is the head of the company?)
He had known it already, but seeing it with his own eyes was still shocking.
