Conviction
After a short pause, Sheralnia spoke.
“There are many companies that believe sales are the most important thing. What do you think about that?”
“Sales are, of course, important. I have no intention of denying the beliefs of people who think that way.”
Maryne carefully chose her words as she continued.
“However, personally, I do not believe one should prioritize generating sales first. One should first think about enriching the customer, and as a result, sales will follow afterward.”
Sheralnia quietly listened to Maryne’s words.
After a brief silence, Sheralnia said,
“Business exists to make profit, doesn’t it?”
In the same calm tone, Sheralnia continued.
“You can make money without making customers smile. Taken to the extreme, you could even profit through deceptive sales tactics, couldn’t you?”
“Unscrupulous business practices may indeed generate sales in the short term.”
Maryne continued.
“But if you continue creating products that never betray your customers’ expectations, steadily increasing loyal fans and repeat customers instead… then I believe you can build a business that lasts for a very long time.”
Trust was something invisible.
Yet it undeniably existed, and it could either grow stronger or diminish.
That was why it was important to continue creating products sincerely for the sake of one’s customers.
If customers received quality products, they would smile, and merchants would gain wealth and become happy as well.
She wanted to grow her company while making everyone smile…
That was the management philosophy upheld by Maryne Flamsteed.
Sheralnia remained silent for a while.
Then, after a moment, she smiled softly.
“I see.”
That was all she said before picking up the paper from the table.
Quietly, she unfolded it before Maryne.
“Read it.”
Maryne lowered her eyes to the paper.
Only a single sentence was written there, penned in powerful strokes.
“Economic activity that enriches people is what ultimately claims victory in the end.”

Maryne silently read the sentence.
It was the conviction considered most important by the genius who had restored the kingdom’s finances.
And within it existed something that shared the same roots as what Maryne had inherited from her mother in her previous life.
“It seems your view of business and mine are very similar.”
Sheralnia said.
There was a gentleness in her voice.
“That makes me happy.”
“Your words honor me greatly.”
Maryne answered that way, while deep within her heart, a warm feeling slowly spread.
