A Certain Citizen’s Perspective (2)
The two sat down in their chairs and called out toward the stall.
A staff member approached them with a smile.
“Welcome. Would you like some pudding?”
“Two, please.”
“Certainly.”
After waiting a short while, two puddings were brought over.
Small ceramic cups.
Pudding topped with black sauce.
Each came with a spoon.
“So cute...”
Yuki murmured.
“It smells sweet and amazing.”
Ruko stared dreamily at the dessert.
“Let’s try it.”
Yuki picked up her spoon.
She gently scooped at the surface.
Jiggle.
It quivered softly.
She brought a bite to her mouth.
“......”
Yuki froze.
It melted.
It dissolved smoothly across her tongue.
The gentle flavor of eggs.
Sweetness spread through her mouth, followed by the slightly bitter taste of the black sauce.
Sweet, but not overly sweet.
“... What is this?”
Yuki muttered.
Ruko was already eating hers too.
“Mmmmmm!!”
Ruko flailed her arms and legs in excitement.
Then she said:
“It’s so good I can’t even find words...!”
“I know...”
The two of them fell silent for a while.
Another bite.
Then another.
Before they realized it, their cups were empty.
“... Can I buy one more?”
Yuki asked quietly.
“I’m buying another too,”
Ruko answered instantly.
The two went back to the stall and ordered one more each.
This time, they ate slowly.
With every bite, the deliciousness seeped into them all over again.
“It really is amazing,”
Ruko murmured.
Yuki said:
“Yeah! Apparently they’ve been selling these in the County Capital for quite a while already. I’m jealous.”
“They should’ve brought them to the Secondary Capital sooner...”
“But this is just a stall, right? Do they have a proper shop?”
Yuki asked the employee.
“The main pudding shop is located in the County Capital. In the Secondary Capital, we currently only sell from stalls, but we do plan to establish a storefront eventually.”
Ruko immediately leaned forward.
“Really!? When the shop opens, I’m definitely going!”
Then the employee added:
“We also sell a dessert called macarons, and there are plans to open a store for those in the Secondary Capital as well.”
“Macarons...? Are those good too?”
“I’m only a part-time worker, so I don’t know the details, but apparently there are massive lines for them in the County Capital. I’ve heard customers absolutely rave about them.”
“... I’m definitely buying some,”
Ruko declared.
“Me too. Definitely.”
Yuki followed right after.
Filled with anticipation for these so-called macarons, the two continued enjoying their pudding.
