A deep, resonant low tone rang through the hall.

“What a rich and beautiful sound…”
The noblewomen exclaimed in awe.
Not every lady there had studied the violin. Many of them were amateurs.
Yet even without detailed musical knowledge, the change in tone was obvious enough for anyone to notice.
Meanwhile…
The musicians were shocked for an entirely different reason.

“No way…”
The same thing the musicians realized, Princess Sheralnia realized as well.
(She’s producing the music using only a single string…?)

Among them, the string responsible for the lowest notes is called the G string.
Maryne was now continuing the performance using only the G string.
(The reason this piece is called “Air on the G String” is because it can be performed entirely on the violin’s G string.)
A piece that could be played using only a single string.
That was Air on the G String.
And not merely playable, either, the performance using only the G string was genuinely beautiful.
There was a unique charm in the depth and weight of a melody performed entirely in low tones.
(Princess Sheralnia said she was expecting an interesting event, which is why I chose this piece. I do hope it satisfies her…)
Thinking that, Maryne glanced briefly toward Princess Sheralnia.
And indeed, Sheralnia’s reaction was favorable, she was completely captivated by Maryne’s performance.
Eventually…
The final note quietly melted into the air.
The performance ended.
Silence filled the room.
“That concludes the performance. Thank you very much for listening.”
Maryne gave a graceful bow.
Clap, clap, someone began applauding.
Soon, everyone there joined in.
“That was an incredible performance!”
“It felt like a dream…”
Voices of praise spilled out one after another.
Among them, the musicians were especially shaken.
“Ahh…!!”
One male musician stood up in excitement.
“To think such music, such music truly exists in reality…!! Elegant, miraculous, marvelous! A wondrous melody! A tune like the dawn of eternity itself! While listening to your performance, I felt as though I were journeying through the heavens!!”
As expected of someone involved in the arts.
He praised her with expressions so extravagant they bordered on absurd.
Another female musician spoke up as well.
“The composition itself was wonderful, but your performance technique was extraordinary too. It felt full of methods I’ve never encountered before.”
Not a single person showed a negative reaction.
Everyone wholeheartedly praised Maryne’s performance.
