Apparently, I Defeated the Undefeatable Worst of Them All
[Royal Capital, Adventurer’s Guild] 3.5★★★☆☆ (457,321 reviews)

E-Rank Adventurer
★★★☆☆
Mornings are packed. Evenings are better.

D-Rank Adventurer
★★★☆☆
Lots of quests, but too many adventurers. Good ones go fast.

C-Rank Adventurer
★★☆☆☆
Quest variety’s all over the place. Needs better filtering.

B-Rank Adventurer
★★★★☆
Private requests available. Connections = stability.

A-Rank Adventurer
★★★★☆
Private requests save me. No point going rural.

I checked the reviews before pushing open the guild’s heavy doors. Crowded as hell.

Filtering by star rating helped—★1s were mostly complaints about difficulty, while ★4-5s praised payout efficiency. Strong adventurers = better ratings. Handy intel.

"So many people~"

"Yeah."

I matched Milfie’s casual tone, but my heart pounded. The guild was packed with jacked, battle-hardened men.

"Gahaha! Dungeon run tomorrow!"

"Still haven’t cleared the third level."

"Heard that rookie got cocky and died last week."

Muscles everywhere.

Of course—fighting monsters, running, fighting again. No way they wouldn’t be ripped. Even the lean ones had abs like steel plates.

And everyone was armed. An intimidating sight.

"Uhh… I don’t even know my original name. Will that be a problem?"

"Nah. Just touch the crystal. If you’re registered, it’ll know."

I trailed behind Milfie like a lost puppy, eyeing her swaying tail. (It’d bristled during combat—adorable. I wanted to touch it, but feared her wrath.)

"—Tabito, hand please."

"Huh?"

Milfie dragged me to the receptionist, where a glowing crystal orb sat.

I placed my palm on it. Thump.

"Hold still, please."

The receptionist—glasses, black hair, unfairly stacked (name tag: Karin)—watched as the crystal turned pitch black.

… The hell?

"... Black."

Karin’s face froze. The guild buzzed.
Eh, what is this?
Is black… a bad thing?

“... Please wait a moment.”

When the buzz ended, Karin left.
The adventurers behind me who saw the whole thing were getting noisy.

"Milfie, is this okay? I am not a wanted criminal that slain the hero or something, am I?"

"Probably not, I think…? But black… I have never seen one before."

"What’s it mean!? And why’d you pause!?"

Why is there black!? What does it mean!?
At that moment, Karin returned.

"Apologies. These are your registration documents.---However, they may not help you with the recovery of your memories."

In order to investigate my past self, amnesia is the convenient cover story Milfie came up with.
Who exactly am I? I can’t really say that I am a different person now, can I?

When I opened the files, it countained one blurry picture. But, I could make up most of it.
Hood up, face obscured.

There also was a single request record.

—"Gildias Subjugation." What is that?

"That’s… it?"

"Yes, this is all the data on you we have. There is usually more details. Name, hometown, registration details. However, there’s nothing. Headquarters might have more, but it would take some time to procure. My apologies.”

“Ah, no. No need for apology.”

In the end, I didn’t know anything.
By the way, it said my name was “Adventurer,” clearly an alias.
The Gildias Subjugation bit made Milfie gasp and point her finger, though.

"Wait... is this for real?"

"... Yes. The records don't lie. I was... surprised too."

The receptionist's expression was one I'd never seen before, clearly shocked by something.

"Milfie, what's this Gildias?"

From the name, maybe a monster? But it sounds kinda human too...

"Gildias was... nicknamed the Death General. The last surviving demon after the Demon King's defeat, said to be the most fearsome of all. Even the Hero couldn't defeat him. But then one adventurer took him down, it was huge news worldwide about a year ago, meow."

"There was a Demon King?... And you're saying I defeated this guy?"

"According to these records, yes."

"... Is this the only record of my exploits?"

"I checked thoroughly - this is the only one. You likely only registered as an adventurer to claim the bounty. There's nothing else on file."

No name.
No registration history.
The only record: defeating the most powerful general.

Heh. What the hell am I?

"By the way, what did that black color mean earlier?"

"The crystal determines your magical affinity. Black represents darkness magic - extremely rare with almost no precedent. It's said you can wield all elements."

"So we're still in the dark..."

The guild hall was buzzing. They must have seen my black crystal. To avoid causing a scene, they kept the document contents confidential. They promised to contact us if they learned more.

We wouldn't be leaving the capital anytime soon. Might as well wait for that report.

Looking back, Milfie was acting strange. Well, can't blame her - I'd be scared too in her position. Guess this is where we part ways—

"Sorry I couldn't be more helpful... Hope we find answers soon."

Wait—she looked genuinely apologetic… Damn, why's she so kind?

"Aren't you scared?"

"Huh? Scared of what?"

"Of me - this unknown entity who supposedly took down the infamous Death General with no memory of it. That's terrifying."

"... I wonder. Just hearing about it might be scary. But I've gotten to know you, Tabito - the you who's taught me things, led the way, been kind. That's why I'm not afraid."

"Thanks, Milfie."

"Eh? No need to thank me!?"

My grandma used to say: "Cherish those who share your sorrows when you're troubled." Easier said than done.

But Milfie's different.
Seriously, what a good person.

That said... I was thinking the exact opposite.

"... This might be inappropriate, but doesn't this excite you?"

"Huh? Excite?"

"Yeah! It's like I'm some story's protagonist. 'Slayer of the Death General' - pretty badass when you think about it, right?"

I wasn't despairing. If anything, I was thrilled. Not knowing my true identity? Awesome.

Hearing this, she laughed.

"Hehe, maybe so. You're so optimistic, Tabito."

"My journey to find myself, your journey to find your kin. Let's keep enjoying it at our own pace like we planned. So... partners till the end?"

While we'd learned some things, I was still essentially a mystery. She might reconsider traveling together.

But Milfie flashed her usual carefree smile and extended her hand.

"Of course, meow! Death General Slayer 'Black Tabito,' pleased to meet you again, meow!"

"Please don't call me that."

"Nyaa!?"

"But yeah, partners till the end."

Her ears perked up, tail swishing happily. So easy to read.

Then it hit me. With this mood, maybe I could...

Slowly, I reached for the base of her ears. Gently stroking, like petting a cat.

Then—

"Fweh meoooowrrr!!! ////// S-sho goooood, meoow, wh-why're you— /////"

Milfie melted into a moaning mess. Apparently it felt amazing.

Not sure what that meant, but her legs trembled and tail fluffed up wildly. This was getting too indecent for public, so I quickly withdrew.

Milfie panted, cheeks burning.

"Wh-what was that!?"

"Sorry, got carried away."

"... S'okay, meow."

So. Damn. Cute.

Now then, staying in the capital meant one thing - earning money.

Fortunately, my adventurer registration carried over.

Despite defeating the Death General, I'd apparently refused any reward or recognition, starting from F-Rank. We'd work our way up from simple quests.

Herb gathering, monster slaying, even dungeons. All easy with my Guide Map.

"Hey Tabito, wanna spar?"

"Huh? Why suddenly?"

"I wanna fight the guy who beat the Death General, meow~"

I recalled those thugs she demolished in the alley.
And this body's original owner isn't really me.

"Hard pass."

"Eh~ why not~?"

"Because I don't want to wake up with your foot on my face."

"... What's that mean?"

[Milfie] ★★★★★
Optimistic people are so cool, meow~

[Tabito] ★★★★★
