Sisters
"It's been so long since I've been able to talk with you like this, Elder Sister. I'm really enjoying it!"
"I am too, Amira."
For the time being, we led them into the station building to hear the details of what was going on... but partway through, the conversation completely derailed and turned into a full-blown sisterly catch-up session.
I tried to steer the conversation back on track somehow, but since it was a long-awaited reunion, they were clearly enjoying themselves, and it just didn’t feel right to interrupt. They seemed like very close sisters, and it was obvious they had missed each other deeply.
Meanwhile, witnessing their heartwarming exchange with a complicated look on her face was Elina.
Since Amira started living at the station, Elina had treated her like a real younger sister. She'd even said before that, being an only child, she longed for the kind of life where she had a sister. So with Amira’s real sister now here, her feelings must be a bit mixed.
Just as I thought I should say something to cheer her up, I saw her lips move ever so slightly.
"I'm glad Amira looks so happy."
That was no lie—just her honest feelings.
If you've seen Elina normally, you’d know that much right away.
And so, we let the sisters have as much time together as they needed.
—About an hour later.
"Ah! I-I'm so sorry! I got completely caught up talking with Amira!"
Realizing how much time had passed, Lillian hurriedly apologized.
"It's no problem. You both must have had a lot to catch up on after so long."
"Th-thank you very much."
"As expected of you, Mr. Justin! So understanding!"
"Haha. You know some pretty grown-up phrases, Amira."
The atmosphere had grown completely relaxed—
—or so I thought, until the moment we tried to get to the main topic, and Lillian’s expression suddenly clouded over.
Come to think of it, she still hadn’t said a word about why she came here.
There had to be a serious reason behind it.
"Lillian, if you’d like, we’re here to listen. Please feel free to talk to us about anything."
"That’s right! Believe it or not, my father is the Vice-Commander of the Knights Order, so we can even take some... forceful measures if necessary!"
"Don't go throwing around your family's influence right out of the gate."
Also, if anyone were to take that kind of approach, it’d probably be easier for someone from the Glaberson family to maneuver using their position as exclusive magicians to a ducal house.
—Wait, there I go derailing again.
Let’s bring it back quickly this time.
"As for the reason you came here..."
I asked the critical question again.
To which she replied—
"I'm... having doubts about my marriage."
She confessed what was weighing on her heart.
