Doubts
Doubts about marriage, huh.
I’m avoiding saying it outright in front of Amira, but this is probably a political marriage after all.
I’d like to dig into the details to understand the situation better... but what’s really on my mind is Amira’s presence, being her younger sister.
“Elder Sister... are you calling off your marriage to Mr. Wesley?”
Such a candid question, only a little sister could ask.
But the content is exactly what I wanted to ask myself.
Amira really does have a sharp intuition when it counts.
Now, how did Lillian react to that too-direct question from her sister?
Her expression turned grim.
“... Honestly, I don’t even know how to answer. It would be rude to him too, and I feel like I need to give him some kind of answer soon, but—”
“That’s not true at all!”
It was Elina who cut off Lillian’s words with a firm rebuttal.
“You can’t go deciding on marriage so lightly! If there’s something you absolutely can’t compromise on, then you have to stand your ground! Right, Senior?”
“Eh? Ah... yeah...”
She suddenly turned to me for agreement, and I reflexively nodded.
… Well, assuming this isn't one of those warped upper-class situations, I’d also want to tell her she doesn’t need to rush a decision.
But judging from the look on her face, this most certainly *is* one of those warped upper-class situations.
—Wait a second.
“Just now, Amira mentioned the name Wesley... Don’t tell me, is your fiancé Wesley Jenkins from the Knights Order?”
“Y-Yes, that’s right.”
“You know him, Senior?”
“He’s my one year junior knight.”
I never imagined Lillian’s fiancé was Wesley.
I haven’t worked with him much directly, but... if I recall, Gary served in the same unit with him for a long time.
Might be worth talking to him soon.
I’ve got some business in the capital anyway.
After that, Lillian managed to regain her composure, but since it had gotten late, she ended up staying the night at the station.
Amira sent her familiar to inform the Glaberson family of the situation... but I have a feeling this is going to stir up some trouble.
It sounds like developments related to that mining town will be coming soon, and the last thing I want is to end up on bad terms with the Glaberson family, given their close ties to the duke’s house.
Well, who knows how this will play out.
