Establishing the New Village
About a week later, the remaining Kiblinki Saltas arrived.
From there, the pace of farmland development increased even more, and with Talat’s help, they even created irrigation canals to bring water from the pond he made.
When the villagers and carpenters arrived about half a month later, they were completely shocked by what they saw.
(Village Chief, the fields are ready.)
{Ah… th-thank you kindly. But, uh, can you even understand our language?}
(We communicate through telepathy and mind-reading. So, with this much land, do you think you can manage?)
{Hmm, well… with this much, I think we’ll manage.}
(Good. Then let’s stop with the farmland for this year.)
{For this year?}
(The soil isn’t good yet. We’ll rotate crops over the next few years to enrich the soil. Kiri and the others have confirmed that crop rotation is possible, so leave it to us.)
The village chief looked puzzled, as if a big question mark appeared over his head.
He probably doesn’t understand what Kiblinki Saltas meant by “crop rotation.”
A few of the Kiblinki Saltas will be staying here as advisors, so I hope they get along well.
“Lady Kiri, so the remaining things needed for this village are buildings and wells?”
“Y-yes. The Kiblinki Saltas said they’ll build fences around the monster ranches and the village for themselves and Parfes, so what remains for humans to handle are buildings and well digging. Though, the wells may be tricky…”
“If it’s just opening a hole, Talat can handle the water. You can do that, right, Talat?”
(That much is easy. I’m not good at digging deep vertical holes, so I’ll leave that part to someone else.)
“What did Lord Talat say?”
“If they dig the holes, he’ll handle bringing the water. I’m not well-versed in village construction, so please handle choosing where to dig the wells.”
“Y-yes.”
Lady Kiri joined the circle of carpenters to discuss where to place the village buildings.
In his place, Lord Riku approached me, watching the scene.
It looks like he has something to say too.
“Lady Lily, I truly appreciate your help this time. A village that would’ve taken a year to build is nearly complete, save for the buildings, in under a month.”
“It’s not over yet. We still need monster-repelling fences and other things, so there’s plenty left to do.”
“Even so, that won’t take long either, will it? With Kiblinki Saltas and Parfes, it’s not hard to cut wood from the nearby forest. The carpenters will handle the finer work, and Kiblinki Saltas and Parfé can finish the fences—or even fortifications. Truly hardworking, remarkable monsters.”
“Thank you. Their passion for farming is intense, so it would help if you understand that.”
“Of course. If I recall, they like to work outside the village too, correct? I’ll allow that under the condition they’re accompanied by hunters or others.”
Perfect, the sales pitch worked!
I’m glad they’re so well received.
“By the way, I wanted to ask—could you lend us more Kiblinki Saltas? In return, the Eight Seats will lend you more Parfes. You don’t need to answer right away, and I know it depends on whether your country can accept more Parfes. Just… keep it in mind.”
Hmm… sending Kiblinki Saltas to the Isles of the Eight Gods, huh?
Not a bad idea.
In recent years, I’ve had more Kiblinki Saltas coming to me annually than I could really use.
I’ve been distributing them to regions where they were already assigned, trying to balance numbers, but even then, we’ve had a surplus.
Depending on how the ones I brought here settle in, I might add the Isles of the Eight Gods as a new dispatch location.
They’re friendly to tamed monsters, so it’s not a bad proposal.
I’ll have to discuss it with Marquis Vardmoi when I get back.
What do you think about this chapter?
That's great, a positive diplomatic relationship has been established.
Thanks for the treat.
More and more spooders, but that makes me think of the other side of the life. Do the Kibliki have infinite lifespan? Unlikely, but depending on their life expectancy and their spawn rate, there's a limit to how many there can be at one time.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! May God bless you!
