Clearing New Fields
(Indeed! There’s nothing quite as fun as clearing new farmland!)

(Compared to tilling already existing fields, this brings a whole different kind of satisfaction!)

(Oh, a rock. Parfe, help me remove this rock.)

“Goo! (Gladly!)”

We arrived at the new village candidate site, which is about a three-day walk from the old village.
The areas where houses will be built have already been decided, so the general locations for fields have also been marked.
Now, the Kiblinki Saltas are rapidly plowing the land.
Occasionally, they hit large rocks, but that’s where Parfe comes in to move them.
Parfe, being excellent at heavy labor, makes quick work of it.
In short, with Parfe helping, the field-clearing process is moving even faster than usual.
Yep, they’re amazing as always.

“Lady Lily, are Kiblinki Saltas normally such monsters?”

Seeing this, even Lady Kiri, Lord Riku, and the village chief—who had come along to observe—couldn’t hide their surprise.
Well, yeah.
This is pretty much everyone’s reaction the first time they see Kiblinki Saltas working the land.

“With Parfe helping, it’s even faster than normal, but yes, this is generally how they operate. Actually, this is slow compared to when there are more of them.”

“This… is slow? Even the Eight Seats use Parfe for agriculture, but this is on a completely different level.”

“They’re monsters whose whole existence revolves around cultivating land, after all. Apparently, they aren’t that strong outside of defensive battles, but when they do defend, they weave webs around the entire area to form a fortified position, so they’re quite formidable. Plus, they can read minds, which makes them ridiculously strong in one-on-one fights.”

“They’re that capable… Are you sure it’s okay to lend out such valuable monsters?”

“They seem eager enough, so it should be fine. If you figure out a farming method that combines them with Parfe, please share it with me. I’d like to try it with my Parfe back in McFarlane.”

“I… I see. But truly, is it alright for us to borrow such extraordinary monsters…”

Lord Riku seemed hesitant, but once the Kiblinki Saltas get motivated, not even I can stop them.
They’ll absolutely come up with the most efficient method for cultivating local specialty crops.
Honestly, they might even start domesticating wild mountain herbs to create new regional delicacies.
We’ve already done quite a bit of that back in McFarlane.

“Lady Lily, could you remind me again of the Kiblinki Saltas’ strengths and weaknesses?”

“Of course… Their strength lies in their sickle-like front legs, which they use to till the land and cut things. Their cutting ability is sharp enough for pruning and felling trees. Their weakness would be heavy labor. While they are monsters and thus stronger than average humans, they’re small and not especially strong. They can cut down trees, but they can’t carry them.”

“I see. Heavy labor is Parfes’ specialty, while Parfes aren’t good with delicate tasks. If these two species work together, we could cover a wide range of tasks.”

“Exactly. As long as you don’t ask anything unreasonable, they’ll help however they can.”

“Understood. I won’t push them beyond their limits—we’ll rely on their help within reason.”

If it’s Lord Riku, I don’t have to worry about him making unreasonable demands.
Still, the Kiblinki Saltas and Parfe combination is seriously powerful.
Aside from the delicate tasks only humans can handle, I bet they can do just about everything else.
Yeah… I should probably not think too hard about that…
