Do Everything You Can
Even after learning the true reason for the ball, Lord Doyle continued to devote himself earnestly to preparations for the event.
Dancing was completely prohibited to avoid aggravating his leg injury. Apparently, he had learned the basics as part of his early education, so he laughed and said he should be able to fake it somehow.
Thus, the top priority leading up to the day of the event became the full recovery of his injury.
If only there were a specialist in healing magic, things would be much easier—but there were only a handful in the entire kingdom, and all of them were part of the Royal Capital’s Magic Corps.
That left herbs as the only real possibility.
I worked with the mansion’s servants and ran all over the vast region of Gracela, trying to gather pain-relieving herbs—but since both the knights and adventurers were constantly seeking them, they were in extremely short supply and difficult to obtain.
“This is tough…”
After finishing the morning’s farm work, I found myself wandering over to the lake on the edge of the village.
I figured I’d try to clear my head with a bit of a break, but… it wasn’t working.
Whenever I had time to think, my mind just kept circling back to what was ahead.
As I sighed and gazed out at the lake, the surface suddenly rose up.
“Oh, did I wake you?”
Despite the strange phenomenon, I remained calm and continued watching the water.
That’s because I already knew what it was—and more importantly, I knew it was someone good.
“You don’t seem too lively, Justin.”
“Sorry for bringing such a gloomy mood.”
“I don’t mind, but… did something happen?”
The one who emerged from the lake was the dragon who made its home here—Asletica.
With a body easily over ten meters long, he was massive, but incredibly intelligent and capable of speaking with humans.
On top of that, his gentle nature had made him quite the beloved figure in the area—especially popular among the children.
Still, I doubted he could understand the intricacies of human society. He’d said before that he’d never had much contact with it…
But clinging to the faint hope that he might offer something, I told him about what had happened.
“I see… I do not understand this ‘human society’ of yours.” Asletica said with a sigh, just as expected.
“Haha, yeah. Honestly, sometimes even I don’t get it anymore.”
“Hm… I may not understand it, but if Doyle’s injury were to heal, that would be good, yes?”
“Well, it wouldn’t solve everything, but it’d definitely improve the situation.”
“Then take the water of this lake with you.”
“Huh?”
It was an offer from Asletica—completely out of the blue.
