Complicated Circumstances
We headed to the Knights Order’s station.

I barely worked with Wesley, so I couldn’t recall ever talking to him. Still, I figured since we were in the same Order, it’d work out somehow. Gary, reading the situation, said he’d tag along.

“Sorry, it’s your day off, right?”

“Not a big deal. I was just gonna do some solo training anyway. Maybe grab drinks tonight.”

Gary laughed it off. That willingness to help was probably why so many juniors looked up to him.

At the station, we quickly learned Wesley was doing solo training, so we headed for the training grounds—where we found Wesley swinging his sword with a desperate expression.

“… What’s with that look?”

“Looks like he’s carrying something heavy on his mind.”

Gary and I instantly noticed something was off. It didn’t look like regular training—he was hacking at invisible enemies, filled with something close to resentment.

… What the hell was going on?

I thought the Jenkins family was pulling the strings behind Lillian’s strange behavior, making Wesley complicit. But… maybe I was wrong.

“With that expression and those movements… he doesn’t look like someone plotting a scheme.”

“If anything, it feels like he’s agonizing over deceiving someone.”

“You thought so too.”

Gary’s voice sounded slightly relieved.

“To be honest… I never bought into it.”

“Didn’t believe it?”

“When rumors spread that the engagement delay was Wesley’s fault, I didn’t believe it. That guy… he really loves Lady Lillian.”

“… Gary.”

According to Lord Daren, Lillian was the one who first brought up the engagement. Maybe the two of them genuinely loved each other… and someone was manipulating that for their own gain.

If that’s true… we’d have to reconsider our whole approach.
