Joining Up with Miracca
It was unexpected to hear Wesley’s name come out of Miracca’s mouth.
After all, it was only yesterday that his fiancée, Miss Lillian, visited Curtis Village and began acting strangely. Aside from Elina and the villagers, no one else should know about that.
And yet, Miracca immediately brought up Wesley’s name.
That suggests that even within the Knights Order, some had already begun to notice that something was off about his behavior.
For now, before speaking with Vice-Commander Bellows, I should try to get more details from her.
“Did something happen with Wesley?”
“.. .Lately, it’s like he’s been completely absent-minded no matter what he’s doing. Just the other day, during a mission to subjugate a giant boar-type monster that appeared near a mountain village, he spaced out and ended up seriously injured.”
“What!? Wesley did!?”
Given his skills, a boar-type monster shouldn’t be any trouble for him...
That means something must have happened to seriously shake him mentally.
“Is he still at the clinic?”
“Yes. Considering his recent condition, he’s been given some time off to recover.”
“I had no idea things had gotten that bad…”
If possible, I would’ve liked to hear directly from him, but under the circumstances, a visit might not be allowed.
“So, what about Wesley?”
“Well... his fiancée, Miss Lillian, came to Curtis Village.”
“She did? —Ah, now that you mention it, she’s from the Glaberson family, right? That would make her and Amira sisters.”
“That’s right. But the way she was acting in the village was... just not normal. Even Lord Doyle and Lady Alyssa, who happened to be there, were concerned.”
“So you thought her fiancé might be the cause of her strange behavior, and that’s why you came all the way to the capital.”
“It’s a bit early, but I figured it could double as my regular report, too.”
“... Hey, would it be alright if I came with you?”
“Huh?”
It was an unexpected offer, but one I was grateful for.
I’ve been stationed out in the countryside for a while now, and I hardly have any up-to-date information on what’s been going on inside the knight order.
Even that incident with Wesley—I had no idea about it until just now.
“If you’re coming, that’d be a huge help, Miracca.”
“I’m not sure I’ll be able to provide any info that’ll meet your expectations, though.”
Miracca said modestly.
Come to think of it, she was always fond of gossip and well-informed about internal affairs.
She might just end up giving me some unexpected intel.
With a reliable companion now in tow, I began heading toward the Vice-Commander’s office.
