I immediately reported the matter concerning Lillian.
Lord Doyle, who didn’t seem to be personally acquainted with her, reacted with a casual “So that’s what happened,” kind of attitude, but Lady Alyssa—who had been familiar with the Glaberson family since childhood—responded quite differently.

“*That* Lillian... Could she really be troubled about her marriage…?”

She seemed to be taking the situation rather seriously.

“It sounds like she’s been quite busy with work lately, and since she hasn’t been able to visit the mansion as often as she used to, I haven’t heard anything about how she’s doing… I’ll have to talk to Father about this.”

This was turning into a bigger matter than I’d expected.
Still, it was clear just how deeply Lady Alyssa cared for Lillian.

“Come to think of it, wasn’t her fiancé a member of the Knights? Do you know him, Justin?”

“Yes, he’s a junior of mine.”

“What kind of person is he?”

“We’ve been in separate units since he joined the order, so I can’t say for sure what he’s like now… But when I first met him, he was earnest and hardworking.”

“That doesn’t sound like a bad match to me,” Lord Doyle said.

I agreed with him.
… However, there’s one thing that’s been nagging at me.

“About this marriage… I do have some questions.”

“Oh? What kind of questions?”

“The Glaberson family is a prestigious line of magicians who have served the ducal family for generations. So why would someone from that family marry a knight with no connection to magic whatsoever? I’ve heard that Miss Lillian was born without the ability to use magic, despite being a Glaberson… But even so, something about this doesn’t sit right with me.”

“You have a point… This may not be the best way to phrase it, but if Lillian’s fiancé were a highly skilled magician, their children might very well be able to use mana without issue.”

If this were a political marriage, it would make more sense if it had been arranged in that direction.
The Glaberson family, huh.
They're certainly one of the most renowned households in the country—but this marriage might be hiding something beneath the surface.

… This may be beyond the reach of a countryside knight like me, but I can’t shake this uneasy feeling.
I think I’ll head to the capital tomorrow and investigate a bit.

Lady Alyssa seems troubled by it too, and seeing her like this has Lord Doyle clearly concerned.
For the sake of their peace of mind, it’s probably best I look into it.
