Beginning of Action
The next morning.
Perhaps because she’d had a chance to enjoy herself with her younger sister Amira for the first time in a while, Lillian looked brighter than she had the day before.
“Mr. Justin, Ms. Elina, I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”
“Not at all. Please come back if anything else happens.”
“We may not be able to offer luxurious hospitality, but we’ll always be here to listen!”
“Thank you very much.”
With those words of gratitude and a warm smile, Lillian took her leave.
It seemed she would now be returning to the royal capital and resuming her duties.
“You should take it easy and stay a bit longer…”
“Sorry, Amira. Maybe next time.”
“… Okay.”
Amira looked down sadly.
At her age, she probably still missed her family a great deal.
Coming from a renowned family of magicians—and being among their most talented—it wasn’t hard to imagine they wanted her to gain experience while she was still young. Still… it might have been better to wait until she was a bit older.
Well, that kind of thing probably falls under the policies of prestigious families, and it’s not really my place as an outsider to butt in.
—That said, I should at least make sure this gets back to Lord Doyle.
The Glaberson family is involved with the new mining town being developed in the Abbott region.
In that case, the Tryon family, whose head Doyle is the lord of the territory, can’t be considered uninvolved.
… Besides, Lord Doyle is said to have a very close relationship with Lady Alyssa of the ducal house.
If the ducal house, which has long had ties with the Glabersons, is aware of Lillian’s marriage situation, they might possess some information.
Whether they’ll share that information is another matter entirely… but it’s worth trying.
So, after seeing Lillian off with one of Amira’s familiars as her escort, I left the station in Elina’s care and headed for the Tryon family estate.
When I arrived, I found—quite conveniently—that Lady Alyssa was visiting.
Thinking I might be able to learn something, I immediately asked Brough about it, but he looked hesitant for some reason.
And the reason became obvious the moment I looked out at the courtyard.
Lord Doyle and Lady Alyssa were enjoying tea prepared by Head Maid Marietta.
A beautiful young man and a beautiful young woman sharing a graceful tea time…
Interrupting that would take some real courage.
Still, it’s not like I could just turn around and leave, so I approached them with Brough.
“Oh, Justin. What brings you here today? Isn’t it a bit early for your regular report?”
“Well… I have something I thought the two of you ought to hear.”
“Oh my, even me?”
With a puzzled look, Lady Alyssa set her teacup on the table.
Now then—what sort of discussion is about to unfold?
What do you think about this chapter?
