Combat Doll (2)
I woke up and was surprised to find myself still alive. Why isn’t the Kingdom killing me?
The pain throughout my body had improved slightly, but my left eye area, left arm, and left side of my abdomen hurt terribly. The fever didn’t seem to have gone down, and I felt extremely lethargic.
If I could just drink some water, I felt like I could go back to sleep. I struggled to get up and was surprised by the feel of the bed. I had never touched such a fine thing before. Combat Dolls like me aren’t given blankets, so I always choose a somewhat softer soil to sleep on. Good-looking Combat Dolls are often forced to sleep in the bedchambers of their superiors, so only they know the feeling of the bedding from when they are allowed to sleep on the bedding of our superiors.
Even the blankets the Kingdom uses for their prisoners are better than the Empire’s blankets. We can’t win like this.
I somehow managed to get up and tried to pick up the water pitcher placed by the bed when I realized that my left arm was missing from the elbow down. Oh, yeah. It hurts because it’s severed.
And of course, I dropped and broke the water pitcher as well. Oh, I really wanted to drink some water.
I gave up and lay back on the bed. Suddenly, the door was flung open with tremendous force, and the two people from yesterday (I think it was yesterday, but I’m not sure because I don’t know how long I’ve been asleep) rushed in.
“What happened? I heard a loud noise.”
“You, what have you done?”
Highness looked worried, while the other person aimed a gun and approached the bedside.
“You’ve woken up. Did you want to drink water?”
Highness, looking at the broken water pitcher, spoke with relief and looked at me lying quietly on the bed. This person speaks so kindly. It’s nice.
And just as I was thinking that, he gently stroked my hair. What’s this? It feels so good~
“Hitachimaru, fetch some water.”
“No, Your Highness, that’s not possible. It can move now. I can’t leave you alone with it.”
The soldier called Hitachimaru, answered while keeping the gun pointed at me. Yeah, you’re right. After all, I’m the enemy.
“Well, then, you can stay where you are, and someone else can help. You wanted to drink water, right?”
I nodded, exhausted. Today, the blanket isn’t too hot either.
I focused my consciousness away from my aching left side and on the hand that was gently stroking my head.
Ah~ if I were to die like this, it would be blissful. And then, I was gently lifted, and a water pitcher was brought to my lips.
It was delicious… I think I said that out loud, but I’m not sure. I drifted back to sleep in a daze.
