Combat Doll (1)
When I woke up, my whole body was burning, and I couldn’t even tell where I was hurting.
My throat was dry and it hurt.
I tried to kick off the blanket covering my body, thinking it was too hot, but my legs wouldn’t move.
I’m going to die.
I’ll die if I don’t move.
Cold sweat was running down my spine, even though it should be hot, making me even more confused.
Then, I saw a figure.
“You’ve awakened.”
I heard a man’s voice, and when I moved my gaze, a concerned face was looking at me. I felt like my field of vision was narrow, and I glanced around anxiously.
Oh, I can’t see with my left eye?
I noticed a throbbing pain near my left eye, but it didn’t matter because my whole body hurt. I have to be careful when I move.
Understanding my situation, I looked at the man. He was wearing the uniform of the Imperial Army. Even though he was the enemy, he was not going to kill me.
“Can you drink water? You haven’t awakened for three days. We’ve given you an IV, but your throat must be dry.”
It’s a waste to give an IV to an enemy who hasn’t awakened for three days. Did the Kingdom have so much surplus? Then there’s certainly no hope for the Empire. In the Empire, there’s no one that could afford treating injured Combat Dolls.
We’ve been enhanced with medicine and surgery since we were children, and we’ve been trained, so it’s said that even minor injuries will heal on their own. Even though our crisis avoidance ability decreases, the pain is still there. It’s painful to heal quickly. I never voice it out though because it’s useless.
The man gently sat me up and brought a water pitcher to my lips. My throat was so dry that I drank desperately. I coughed and failed… Oh, my throat hurts.
“Your Highness, you are here again?”
I heard a different voice. I wanted to look over there, but my body wouldn’t move at all, so I gave up and entrusted everything to the hand that was supporting my back.
If you’re going to kill me, please do it all at once.
“He’s awake! Your Highness, please step away. That’s an Imperial Combat Doll. It’s dangerous.”
What, do they know who I am? Then why aren’t they killing me?
I looked at the man who was supporting my back.
So his name was Highness, I guess. This posture is getting painful.
Perhaps he heard my thoughts because he laid me back on the bed. Hoh, I sighed.
“It must have been painful. I’m sorry.”
As he said that, he tried to cover me with a thick blanket.
I don’t need that. It’s hot.
I tried to move my arm in a hurry, and I let out a sharp cry as a severe pain shot through my left arm. Tears welled up.
“Oh, don’t move. Your injuries are severe. It hurts, doesn’t it? There, there.”
He gently pressed my arm and patted me, and I became even more confused.
“You have painkillers here, right?”
“Your Highness, please stop this. Why are you treating a nearly broken Combat Doll like this? It’s really dangerous! Please destroy it while it can’t move.”
While I was in pain, I nodded and thought, “You’re right, you’re right.”
“What do you mean by ‘nearly broken’ or ‘destroy’? He’s a human. You saw everything when you treated him. He’s human, through and through.”
As I felt the arm being massaged and found it pleasant, I let go of my consciousness for the first time in my life, thinking that I would be quite happy to die like this.
