Fantasy Metal Weapons
With the armor finished, the next step was weapons.
A few days later, we headed back to the volcano forge to pick them up.
It really is a bit inconvenient not having any means of communication.
What should I do about that, I wonder.
"Hm? Oh, Lily and the others."
"Yes. Are the weapons ready?"
"Yeah, they’re done. I’ve got them stored over here, come with me."
Following Teysa, we came to a vault-like room at the back of the workshop.
We hadn’t noticed it before, but apparently it had always been there.
At first it didn’t have a key, and unlocking it had been troublesome.
For the record, the key here is actually a plate made of fantasy metal.
Once he fashioned a plate out of fantasy metal that fit snugly into the grooves of the door, it opened.
That too was written in the notes left by his predecessor.
Talk about overly detailed security.
"Here they are. I’m proud of every single one—go ahead and take a look."
On the shelves of the vault were greatswords, swords, rapiers, a bow, a staff, and two shields.
Each blade had a pale bluish-white appearance, disguising its true nature, but anyone with an eye could sense the magic sealed within.
They all had sockets, though, meaning they weren’t finished yet.
That’s my part.
"Let’s see… For the greatsword: ‘Thunderbird’s Wingbeat’ and ‘Wrath of the Stone God’. For the sword: ‘Wind God’s Blade’ and ‘Glitter of the Ice Phoenix’. For the rapier: ‘Flame Emperor’s Judgment’ and ‘Fang of the Water Dragon’. The bow and staff will each get all eight elements, plus orbs for mana storage and regeneration. As for the shields… let’s just make them as tough as possible."
"Those sound like dangerous names just by themselves."
"Do they? I wouldn’t really know—I’ve never actually used a summoning card. I got a lot of them, but I never had the chance to use them. And I wasn’t so strapped for cash that I needed to sell them off, either."
"Yeah, I guess I can believe Lily wouldn’t be hurting for money. Fanny, should these orbs even be out in the open?"
"… Not really. Each summoning card is so valuable you could build a mansion in the prime district of Vardmoi with just one. And now you’ve got them in a state where they can be used infinitely and can’t be destroyed… for an enemy, that’s a nightmare."
"Well, guess we’ll just have to accept it since it’s Lily."
What kind of rude logic is that—‘it’s Lily, so just give up’?
Anyway, I sealed the summoning cards into orbs, reinforced them with Talat’s threads so they wouldn’t break, and then bound them to the weapons with more of Talat’s threads.
That way, no one could remove the orbs separately.
"… I’m jealous. I want a weapon like that too…"
"If you keep working hard, I’ll give you one, Lana. So do your best as a guard for now."
"Yes! I’ll do my best!"
That was easy.
As for Lana’s current weapon, it’s a somewhat short sword.
Both Fanny and Juna said it was just an ordinary blade, nothing special.
Teysa herself remarked, ‘It’s a good weapon, but nothing about it stands out.’
So in truth, compared to the weapons of gold-rank adventurers, hers is pretty underwhelming—at best average.
Against Fanny’s and Juna’s custom-made gear, it looks plain for sure.
I’ll wait about a year, see how she does, and if she really proves herself, I’ll ask Teysa to make her a proper weapon.
What do you think about this chapter?
Thanks for the treat.
