The First Completed Strike
While we were away buying potions, the first sword had already been completed.
Teysa showed us the finished piece.
“Wow, that’s amazing. It’s so beautiful.”
“Well, this one’s mostly for display. As a sword, the length is kind of awkward.”
“Hm. Then why make something like that?”
“For your sake. You’re going to be working as a top-class merchant from here on out, right? In that case, you ought to pay attention to interior decorations too.”
Ah, so that’s it.
In that case, I’ll gladly accept it.
Fanny and the others looked at us like this was impossible, but since it really was made from leftovers, it might be perfect as a decoration.
Besides, it had a mysterious sort of color to it.
“So, what kind of effect does this sword have?”
“Hm? None at all.”
“Huh, none?”
“I only gave it the bare minimum of an edge. Honestly, it’s about sharp enough to peel fruit, but it couldn’t even cut a person. It’s strictly ornamental.”
So, like a dulled blade, then.
Fanny and the others were even more baffled, but hey, it exists, so they’ll just have to accept it.
Still, it feels like a waste to leave it as-is.
Maybe I’ll try a few experiments.
“Fanny, how do you combine a gem and a summoning card?”
“Oh, right. You imagine channeling the power of the summoning card into the inside of the gem. If the gem isn’t tough enough, it’ll break, so be careful.”
“Got it. Then I’ll use these.”
I took out a slightly smaller gem and the [Extreme Cold] card.
They seemed compatible enough, and I had a good feeling.
I pictured infusing the card into the gem… and done!
“Is this right?”
“Yes, just like that. But doing it on the first try is amazing.”
“Well, it felt similar to body strengthening, so it worked out. Talat, wrap this up tight with your threads!”
(Got it!)
The gem I’d been holding was wrapped up by Talat’s threads, making it extremely sturdy.
I even slammed it against the floor as a test, but it didn’t so much as crack.
That should count as a success.
“Teysa, could you carve a hole in this sword big enough to set this gem?”
“Sure thing. Hand it over.”
With Teysa’s quick handiwork, a hole was opened in the sword.
We set the gem inside, had Talat reinforce it again with his threads, then I layered on additional enchantments. And with that, it was complete!
“Alright! The Sword of Frozen Prison, complete!”
“Oh-ho, now that’s something interesting you’ve made.”
“Right? This metal doesn’t break even with strong enchantments, so it’s great for enhancements!”
“But hey, aren’t you forgetting something?”
“What do you mean?”
“That was supposed to be ornamental.”
Ah… so it’s turned into a practical weapon after all.
Well, it’s still beautiful to look at, so I’ll just display it under the guise of decoration.
If it ever proves useful in an emergency, then all the better.
What do you think about this chapter?
That sword⚔ is a waste to use as a decoration.
Thanks.
