Little Moira’s Recent Life
After joining up with the Oxit Baron family, we headed toward the domain capital, Oxit.
Marquis Vardmoi rode in Baron Oxit’s carriage to discuss future matters, while Little Moira rode in mine so we could chat.
By the way, Little Moira was sitting on top of Talat.
She had Talat’s thread wrapped around her waist like a seatbelt, but there was no helping it.
At a glance, it might look like a kidnapping, but it really couldn’t be helped.
There just weren’t enough seats.
“So, Little Moira, you’re still close with Little Bern?”
“Yes. It’s far too far to visit, but we can still write letters. By the way, Lady Lily, are you still making dresses like always?”
“Dresses? No, not really.”
“Eh? But you’re a seamstress, aren’t you?”
“I usually make clothes for the general public. Noble dresses… only when someone specifically requests them.”
And even then, I only accept those requests if they go through Marquis Vardmoi, so the noble clothing shop is mostly deserted.
But that shop was built with that in mind from the beginning, so it’s not a problem.
It also serves as a training ground for the kids who graduate from the Vardmoi Orphanage.
That part is finally starting to take shape.
The three girls who’ve been working hard since spring finally learned Magic tailoring.
Once they’ve learned it, all that’s left is to gain experience and work their way up to sewing more complex clothes, so I want them to keep it up.
In that sense, I’ll need to find—or prepare—work placements for them eventually.
I’ll have to talk to Marquis Vardmoi or Alizée about that next time.
“My shop is mostly aimed at commoners. Occasionally a noble visits in disguise, though.”
“That’s amazing! I’ve heard nobles with real influence usually summon tailors to their homes!”
“My situation’s a bit complicated, so I’m not exactly a typical case. I’m a seamstress from a commoner background, yes, but I started as a clothes merchant, became an official purveyor to Marquis Vardmoi, and now I’ve also been granted the status of a Silver-ranked merchant.”
“But that’s still amazing! If I try hard, could I become like that too?”
Umm… what exactly do you mean by “try hard”?
When I asked, Little Moira told me she’s started studying design.
At first, I wondered what it meant for a noble girl to aim to become a seamstress, but apparently, it’s not unusual in families that aren’t very wealthy for daughters to learn a trade.
She doesn’t know if she’ll be able to use that skill after getting married, but it seems there’s value in learning it.
“Fabric is expensive, so I can’t get much of it, but I can still manage to study design. Even if I can’t make the kind of elaborate dresses you do, Lady Lily, I think I might be able to make simple clothes for commoners.”
“I see. But if that’s all, it might be hard to turn it into a business. There are already a lot of seamstresses making clothes for commoners.”
“Ah… that’s true. What should I do, then?”
Hmm, what should I do?
I don’t want to crush a child’s dream, but starting a business is tough without capital.
Maybe I should at least make her a textbook?
It’ll have to wait until I return to Vardmoi, but I decided to make a basic clothing guide and send it to her, and Little Moira was delighted.
I’ll send along a color chart too.
People in this world don’t seem to fully grasp those yet, but if she trains her senses from a young age, she might get the hang of it.
Since it’ll involve the education of a noble girl, I’ll have to get her parents’ permission, but I really hope she gives it her all.
