"A Dress That Sparkles Like a Lake"
With Little Bern’s requests in hand, I quickly got to work on the first dress: "A dress that sparkles like a lake."
This idea came from a trip Little Bern and her family took to a lakeside resort, where she was captivated by the beautiful scenery reflected on the water’s surface.
She wanted a dress that captured that image.
It’s a clear and easy-to-visualize request, which is a big help.
For the dress, I used Ogre Spider Silk for the lining and silk made from Ice Weaver threads for the outer layer.
This silk has just the right translucent aqua-blue hue.
By blending in threads from Frost Spider Silk here and there, I could also recreate the shimmering surface of the water.
The main part of the dress is perfect now.
Next, I wanted to add some details, but I wasn’t sure what.
I’ve never been to a lake myself, so I thought Plum might have some good ideas.
"So, you came to ask me about it?"
"Yes, I thought you might have been to such places before."
"Well, I have, but… wouldn’t it be better to confirm with the person herself?"
"With the person herself? You mean Little Bern?"
"Indeed. It’s not exactly a secret gift, is it? The best way to finish it is to hear her opinions as you go."
Hmm, that’s a point I hadn’t considered.
While Marquis Vardmoi is the one who placed the order, Little Bern is the one who requested the dress.
It’s only right to meet with her and get her input.
I’ll do that right away.
I arranged a meeting through Marquis Vardmoi and got permission to see Little Bern the next day.
She seemed excited and even said she wanted the first dress as soon as possible.
Looks like I’ll have to work quickly on the rest of the dresses too.
"Wow! That’s such a pretty blue, just like the lake!"
"Indeed. It’s a truly translucent blue."
"Absolutely. But it’s not quite finished yet, is it?"
"It’s mostly done. But since it’s just a single shade of aqua, I thought I’d ask for your input before making any final adjustments."
"My input? You’ll listen to what I want!?"
"Of course. As long as it’s not too unreasonable."
"Then I want fish! Fish swimming in the water!"
Fish, huh? That’s tricky…
It’s not that I can’t make them, but adding fish would make it less like a noble’s dress.
Hmm, I’ve got it!
"I can’t make fish swim on the dress, but how about a fish-shaped brooch?"
"A fish brooch?"
"Yes. It’ll take a bit of time, but I can place an order with a silversmith I know. How does that sound?"
"Yeah! That’s perfect! And use blue stones for the fish’s eyes!"
Oh my, she really is a little fashionista.
Anyway, the dress itself doesn’t need much more adjustment, so I made some final tweaks to the neckline and other details before delivering it.
The silverwork will take some time, but the skilled craftsman I know will make something wonderful that she’ll love.
Now, onto the next dress!
