Little Bern's New Wardrobe
The matter of having Marquis Vardmoi act as an intermediary for me went smoothly.
In fact, it seems Marquis had been planning to bring up the same topic with me.
While it does make me somewhat of a political pawn, I’m under Marquis Vardmoi’s protection, so it can’t be helped.
"Now then, Lily. I have a job I’d like you to take on right away."
"What is it? Did a request come in from some noble?"
"... Well, you see. I’d like you to prepare a few dresses for Bern."
Marquis Vardmoi hesitantly requested dresses for Little Bern. The reason was this:
Little Bern had taken such a liking to the “Rainbow After the Rain” dress that she wanted to wear it everywhere.
However, for Marquis Vardmoi and Lady Harriet, that dress was meant to be carefully stored away for the next tea party—they couldn’t just let her wear it out casually.
While Little Bern understood this logically, emotionally she wasn’t satisfied, and it seemed she was getting a little grumpy.
Well, Little Bern is still a child after all.
As a solution, they wanted to order a few replacement dresses from me, and they were about to call me in when I reached out first.
Talk about perfect timing.
"Understood. So, does Little Bern have any specific ideas for the dresses?"
"She does, but she won’t tell us. She insists on talking to you directly."
Oh my.
Little Bern really is Young lady Kou’s little sister, isn’t she?
Stubborn in all the right places.
"Understood. I’ll go hear her requests directly."
"Please do. Ideally, I’d like you to make at least five dresses. You can deliver them as they’re completed."
That’s a lot of requests this time.
They must be really struggling.
Little Bern was currently in her room studying history.
With Marquis Vardmoi’s permission, I decided to drop in on her during her studies.
"Ah, the dressmaker sister!"
"Yes, my name is Lily. Nice to meet you."
"Okay, Big sister Lily. So, you see, Father and Mother say I can’t wear that dress out anymore."
"That dress is for special occasions, after all. They’ve asked me to make some new dresses for you instead. What kind of dresses would you like?"
"Really!? Well, for the new dresses…"
Little Bern’s requests were quite specific and easy to understand.
The first dress: “A dress that sparkles like a lake.”
The second dress: “A calm dress like a sea.”
The third dress: “A refreshing dress like a meadow.”
The fourth dress: “A bright dress like a flower field.”
The fifth dress: “A serene dress like a forest.”
While the descriptions were abstract, the imagery was clear, and I could easily picture the colors.
Now, it’s just a matter of figuring out what kind of dresses would fit those ideas.
Since I had some extra time, I decided to consult Little Bern about the dress silhouettes as well, and she gave me plenty of input.
It seems Little Bern is quite the fashionista.
But with the colors and silhouettes specified, the real challenge for me as a dressmaker is how well I can bring those images to life.
I’ll gladly take on this challenge!
What do you think about this chapter?
Yeah, it is the dress making time. ?
Thanks for the treat.
