The Pulsing of the Tree of Life — The Forest’s Call and New Life
In Akio’s town, as the signs of true winter began to settle in, whispers started spreading among Sylvia, Ayane, and the others — that Kina and Leonora’s recent bouts of poor health might not be illness at all, but rather the signs of new life. While hope and quiet excitement grew within the household, a visible transformation was taking place at the heart of the village — within the great Tree of Life itself.
The tree, which only days before had been proudly covered in fresh green leaves, now seemed to breathe. Its trunk thickened, its branches reached further toward the heavens, and before long it had grown to nearly twice its former size. The air around it brimmed with a purer, stronger life force than ever before.
Yet this magnificent growth brought with it an unsettling change among the village’s sacred beasts. The creatures that usually bounded happily through the settlement now gathered restlessly at the base of the Tree of Life. They stared toward the depths of the forest, sometimes crying out in unease — as though afraid of something, or trying to warn the villagers of a coming change.
“Sylvia… the sacred beasts—they seem frightened. Or maybe… they’re trying to tell us something.”
Akio spoke with worry in his voice. Sylvia, her brow furrowed, gazed between the great tree and the dark forest beyond.
“Yes, Akio. I can feel it too. The Tree of Life’s power is rising sharply… and the flow of the forest’s energy is shifting with it. Something vast is stirring out there. And…” She closed her eyes briefly. “I can almost hear them — faint but countless voices of life, calling from deep within the woods.”
Her tone carried a quiet but grave tension.
Just then, Alto and Kenta, who had been on watch, burst into the central hall, pale and breathless.
“Akio-san! Sylvia-san! It’s terrible—out in the western forest, farther beyond where we found the livestock before—there are people! So many of them!”
According to their report, the scouting unit Leonora had organized had discovered a large group of humans huddled together in a deep ravine — more than a hundred, perhaps — gaunt, weak, and barely clinging to life. None bore fresh wounds from battle, but starvation and despair had clearly hollowed them out.
“What…!? Gather a rescue team, now!”
At Akio’s command, the village erupted into motion. Leonora swiftly assembled able-bodied fighters, while Kina volunteered to join despite her frail condition. Sylvia and Ayane hurried to prepare medicines and food, and Celestina — drawing on her experience comforting refugees — offered to accompany them.
In the midst of the commotion, Sylvia took Akio’s hand and spoke softly.
“Akio… about Kina and Leonora’s conditions… I was right. They’re both with a child — your children. There’s little doubt.”
Her words, arriving in this moment of crisis, filled Akio with a quiet but powerful light of hope. Yet now was not the time to linger on joy — there were lives in desperate need of saving.
“I see… thank you, Sylvia. Everyone—stay safe until we return.”
With that, Akio set out at the head of the rescue party.
The Tree of Life’s astonishing growth, the unrest among the sacred beasts, the discovery of the dying refugees deep within the forest—and the revelation of new life within Kina and Leonora.
Joy within, and trial without—the town stood at a turning point. What awaited them at the heart of the forest, and could they protect all these lives that now depended on them?
The flow of destiny had begun to shift once more, guided by the pulsing heart of the Tree of Life.
