The Freedom to Choose Your Job
Jobs...
They were said to be something the gods had granted humanity as a means to fight against monsters.
There were countless kinds of Jobs, and not all of them had even been discovered yet.
Julius’s [Job Changer] was one such Job. (There’s no Hello Work in another world, alright…? Totally different. This is a rule of the world!! And you don’t need a résumé either...)
And Jobs could not be changed by one’s own will.
That was the common sense of this world.
The one who overturned that common sense was Julius’s Job.
“Alright, we’ve finished the basic Jobs. Next, let’s move on to special Jobs.”
““Special Jobs?””
“Right, special Jobs. You can only become one after mastering certain basic Jobs… for example, if you master both Warrior and Mage, you can become a Magic Swordsman. And not just [Magic Swordsman] either—you can become famous Jobs like [Sword Saint], [Bow Saint], [Sage], [Saintess], and even [Hero].”
...
.........
............!?
Everyone froze with their mouths hanging open at that shocking revelation.
They could become the legendary Jobs spoken of in myths.
Among them, [Hero] was special. There could only be one per era...
And they could become what was said to be the strongest Job in existence?
“Hey, Julius. Don’t tell me there are tons of Heroes out here in the frontier?”
“Ohh, as expected of the Hero. You figured it out quickly. Well, not tons exactly, but most of the people living here have experienced being Heroes before.”
Experienced being Heroes? Frontier commoners?
For Waltz, who had always believed himself superior because he was the Hero, it was a shocking moment.
Somewhere in his heart, he’d always thought that because he alone was special, people would overlook a few things...
That identity of his was now crumbling apart.
“Could it be… Julius too? Nemesia too? Even your father and mother?”
“Yep. Every single one of them’s already done it.”
“Is there… maybe a Job above Hero?”
Julius only smiled cheerfully and didn’t answer...
“There’s no point staring upward forever. You’ve gotta start with what you can do first. Alright then, let’s begin with Magic Swordsman.”
---
Right now, the hero party was waiting in the Forest of Demons, preparing to attack an orc settlement.
The sun had climbed high overhead, it was already past noon.
In the Forest of Demons, you could constantly hear some kind of cry or roar echoing in the distance, but right now none of that bothered us.
I could clearly tell everyone was focused.
Orcs.
Among monsters, they were probably as famous as goblins and slimes.
Their bodies were wrapped in muscles and fat like sumo wrestlers, and their faces resembled pigs.
Complete power fighters.
They used weapons, and there were a lot of them.
Like goblins, they also reproduced with females of other races, making them the natural enemy of female adventurers.
“We’re attacking the orc settlement now. Approximately three hundred orcs. As usual, I’ll take the front and hold the orcs back. Waltz, finish off any pigs whose movement stops. Elizabeth, provide support fire and sniping. Milian and Almeria, use magic to reduce the number of orcs coming from the rear. Elizabeth, don’t neglect enemy detection either. We launch a magic bombardment first, then charge together.”
Crown Prince Erason rapidly issued commands.
After that, everyone gathered mana, and the instant Crown Prince Erason’s right hand sliced downward in a signal, a barrage of different spells assaulted the orc settlement.
BOOM!
The spells landed and exploded, and at the same moment the hero party dashed forward.
At the front was the tank, Crown Prince Erason, his flashy red cape billowing in the wind as if shouting, “I’m right here!” while he charged into the orcs with a massive shield raised.
Following him, Waltz gathered mana, ready at any moment to shorten the distance with [Flash Step] and enter close combat.
A little behind them, Princess Elizabeth drew her bow while building up mana.
The current Princess Elizabeth had become capable of continuously attacking with both bow and magic, steadily growing into a magnificent rear-line core attacker.
The old Princess Elizabeth had been like a stationary turret who stopped moving every time she fired an arrow.
But now, she annihilated enemies with overwhelming volume of attacks while running.
Those were the fruits of her special training with Elia.
Finally came the magic users, Milian and Almeria.
Milian continuously unleashed spells without pause, multiple magic circles floating above her head as she fired magic of various attributes from them, mowing down the orcs in the rear.
Previously, Milian would stop moving and cast each spell one at a time, but now she could move in sync with her allies while simultaneously using multiple spells.
Almeria also used multiple spells while carefully observing the battlefield.
She constantly maintained thin layers of healing magic over the entire party while stacking enhancement spells on top of them, maximizing the performance of every member of the hero party.
And while doing all that, she also attacked with light magic during any spare openings.
Crown Prince Erason collided with the orcs.
Even against the sumo-sized orcs, he held his ground without being overpowered, skillfully deflecting their attacks.
Sometimes he redirected blows to throw them off balance.
Sometimes he blocked directly to halt their movements.
Using both his massive shield and sword expertly, he pushed forward through multiple attacks.
Waltz finished off the orcs Crown Prince Erason stopped one after another, moving with elegant steps like a dancer.
Unlike before, where he’d simply charged straight at enemies, he now used [Flash Step] for hit-and-run tactics, steadily reducing their numbers.
The orcs rapidly dwindled, and before long the settlement had been completely subdued.
“The hero party’s really grown stronger. Thanks, Giri, Elia, Nemesia.”
“Yeah, this was pretty fun.”
“Yes, thank you for the compliment.”
“Mm, Big Brother.”
“... Still, that thing’s probably beyond them right now.”
From a short distance away, a gigantic shadow was slowly approaching.
