An Unsatisfying Resolution
Lowell Glaberson’s crimes were exposed, the source of all this trouble brought to light, and everything should have been resolved. But something still didn’t sit right with me.

Sure, we were relieved that the Tryon family would continue managing the Goethel Mines without interference, but there was an ominous cloud still hanging over the Glaberson family’s young lady.

I had suspected Lowell was involved in this too, but there seemed to be another hand in the shadows, someone else backing him.

From here on, the Glaberson family and the Magic Corps would take over the investigation, or so I’d been told.

“Hmm…”

Back at the outpost, I let out a thoughtful groan.

I’d already reported everything to Lord Doyle, and Lady Arissa herself would soon visit the Tryon estate to apologize for the commotion—although knowing her, it seemed like she just wanted an excuse to see Lord Doyle.

“Senior, if you keep frowning like that, you’re going to age faster,” Elina said in exasperation.

Amira had already gone out to play with the village children that morning.

“I know, I know… It’s just, something’s still bothering me.”

“Still suspicious of the Jenkins family, huh?”

The Jenkins family—Wesley Jenkins’s family, Lillian’s fiancé—had no particular power to speak of.
Frankly, they were just commoners, not even remotely comparable to noble houses like the McCreed or Glaberson families.

And yet, Lillian had chosen to marry someone from that household.

It sounded like something straight out of the romance novels Miracca loved to read… well, if you could call her preferences “romance.” I remembered the time she and Elina were chatting about some scandalous love story involving betrayal between knights.

I sighed, recalling the conversation, but pushed the thought aside. Right now, I needed to speak with someone who knew Wesley well—Gary.

◇◇◇

“Achoo!”

“You okay, Miracca? Catching a cold?” Gary asked.

“I’m fine, Gary… Someone must be gossiping about me.”

“Let’s hope that’s all it is.”
