The Traitor’s Fate
Ownership of the Goethel Mines remained safely in Lord Doyle’s hands.
Frankly, it was thanks to how utterly foolish the mastermind, Lowell, had been.
Had he been even a bit more cunning, he might have gotten away with seizing the rights for himself.

News of the incident was swiftly delivered to the Knights Order.
By nightfall, a prison transport carriage thundered its way to the McCreed estate, ready to haul Lowell off to jail.

“Get in quietly!”

“Don’t make this harder on yourself!”

“N-No! Let me go! I’m a member of the Glaberson family!”

The knights hesitated for a moment at those words—until a cold voice cut through.

“A man who betrays his own family has no name left to claim. Take him.”

The one issuing that order was none other than his elder brother, Lord Daren.

“B-Brother! Are you really sending your own flesh and blood to prison!?”

“Then let me ask you this: is it forgivable to manipulate your brother with forbidden magic, destroy the future of a promising young lord, and chase your own selfish desires?”

“Guh…”

Lowell had no rebuttal to that sharp truth.
This was karma.
He’d made his bed, and now he was lying in it.

Even so, the disgraced man continued screaming all the way to the carriage.
Toward the end, it almost sounded like he was apologizing.
Perhaps he had finally realized the full weight of his crimes—
That he had done something irreversible.
But it was far too late.

As for me, not a shred of sympathy stirred.
From now on, Lowell would have a long time to reflect—locked away in a cell.

… If he ever got out alive, that is.

“Sir Justin. We owe you a great deal.”

After watching the carriage disappear into the night, Lord Daren approached and extended his hand.
I accepted the handshake, though I could see the sorrow weighing on his face.

He had spoken harshly and cast aside his brother without mercy,
But I knew—it had hurt him deeply to do so.

Still, the fact that he pushed aside his emotions to deliver just punishment… That made him all the more admirable.

And with that, the case was closed.

—or so I thought.
There were still loose ends.
The biggest one being… Lady Lillian.
