What’s His Aim?
In response to my question, Lady Alyssa’s heavy lips slowly parted.
“This is only speculation… but I suspect he intends to smuggle the mana ore to another country.”
“What!?”
She’s making outrageous claims again…
But honestly, I’d been suspecting the same thing.
Otherwise, there’s no logical reason for him to be so obsessed with this.
That said, even this explanation doesn’t resolve all the questions. Why would someone from the wealthy Glaberson family be so desperate for money?
Maybe Schneider’s story was true after all.
“Lady Alyssa… Actually, I’ve obtained some information through my own sources as well.”
“Oh my, is that so?”
“Yes. Supposedly, Lord Lowell has his sights set on becoming the next head of the Glaberson family.”
“!”
Lady Alyssa’s expression instantly tensed.
She must have suspected as much already.
“How reliable is this information?”
“It’s secondhand, from someone who heard it from another, so I can’t say for certain… But if Lord Lowell intends to monopolize mining rights with the intention of smuggling mana ore abroad, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think he plans to use the power he gains to seize control of the Glaberson family—no, perhaps even extend his ambitions to ruling the entire nation.”
“… The terrifying part is, that doesn’t sound as ridiculous as it should.”
Lady Alyssa let out a bitter smile.
True, it’s the kind of tale people might normally laugh off… But given her personal encounters with Lord Lowell, she clearly doesn’t see it as a joke.
“I’ll inform Lord Daren of what you’ve told me.”
“Please do. And—”
“My Lady!”
Our conversation was abruptly interrupted as a maid suddenly burst into the room.
“Barging in without knocking? What is the meaning of this?”
“M-my apologies… But Lord Daren has arrived.”
“Lord Daren?”
The head of the Glaberson family showing up at this timing?
I was about to comment on how convenient that was when the maid added even more shocking news.
“A-and… Lord Lowell is with him…”
“!?”
Both Lady Alyssa and I froze in surprise.
Lord Daren, accompanied by Lord Lowell?
