McCreed Family, Once Again
It had been since that party that I last visited the McCreed family estate.
According to Amira, this was where the man at the center of all this—Lowell Glaberson—was currently residing.
Apparently, thanks to him, the Glaberson family had grown dissatisfied with the Tryon family managing the Goethel Mines.
In order to uncover the truth, I immediately requested a meeting… but an unexpected situation awaited me.
“What? I can’t meet with him?”
“I’m sorry. Please leave.”
The response from the gatekeeper was a shocking “No.”
“Why not? Why can’t I see him?”
“The gentleman himself has instructed us to refuse all visitors. He doesn’t wish to meet with anyone.”
“You’ve got to be kidding…”
This situation reeked of trouble.
There had to be a reason for him refusing visitors so thoroughly.
Ideally, I wanted to confront him directly, but forcing my way through now would be dangerous.
There was a real chance I’d damage the relationship with the McCreed family that I’d worked so hard to improve.
I couldn’t break in by force, but going back empty-handed wasn’t an option either…
As I was wracking my brain over what to do, a young girl approached from the garden.
“Oh? Justin?”
“L-Lady Alyssa!”
It was Lady Alyssa of the McCreed family, whom I was already acquainted with.
“Is something the matter?”
“I wanted to meet with someone.”
“I see. In that case, please, come inside.”
“L-Lady Alyssa!?”
The guards hurriedly stepped between us.
“The person this knight is trying to meet, Lord Lowell, has ordered not to meet anyone.”
“Oh, I wasn’t planning to have him meet Lord Lowell. I recently acquired some excellent tea leaves, and I was hoping to have Lord Doyle try them and see if they suit his tastes.”
Lady Alyssa shot me a discreet glance, hidden from the guards.
I immediately caught on and decided to play along.
“If it’s alright with you, I’d be happy to.”
“Oh, how delightful. Thank you very much. Please, come in.”
“M-My Lady—”
“Oh my… is there a problem with my guest?”
Her expression remained smiling, but… her eyes clearly weren’t.
So this is the pressure a duke’s daughter can exert.
Even the guards couldn’t help but shrink back from her sheer presence.
“Well then, please, welcome to our home.”
“Th-Thank you very much.”
Forcing a strained smile, I followed after her into the McCreed estate.
