A Dazzling Display of Swordsmanship
Even though it was located near the border, this outpost held a rather low position within the Knights Order. And yet, a clearly armed group that couldn't possibly be here just to ask for directions was approaching.

There were ten of them.

Every one of them had a face that perfectly suited the word "thug."
They probably committed so many misdeeds that it started to show in their appearance.

These men showed no signs of slowing their horses—they fully intended to attack us as they were.

“So it’s going to be no questions asked.”

“Makes things easier to deal with, at least.”

“True enough.”

If they were coming at us with murderous intent, then we would meet them head-on.

They must have thought they had the advantage attacking from horseback—but that was naïve.

“Leave this to me.”

Saying that to Senior Road, I drew my sword and dashed toward the men.

“Take this!”

“Outta the way!”

The two men in the lead swung their swords down at me in what they clearly thought would be a surprise attack.

But their moves were so ridiculously easy to read that I had no trouble dodging them.

In fact, being on horseback limited their sword handling, so it couldn't really be called an overwhelming advantage.

I dodged their attacks and countered with slashes of my own.

“Gah!?”

“Urgh!?”

The two tumbled from their horses and stopped moving, probably having lost consciousness.
That left eight.

“Wh-What the hell!?”

“There wasn’t any info about a knight this strong being here!?”

“Then how about you tell me who gave you that information?”

While they panicked and left themselves wide open, I took down another five.

Only three remained.

“N-No good! Fall back!”

“Not gonna let you.”

Senior Road blocked the path of the remaining three as they tried to flee.

“Damn it! Out of the way!”

The men drove their horses forward regardless… but that wasn’t going to stop him.

“Scared, huh—here!”

Though he said that out loud, Senior Road pulled off perfect counters, dragging all three off their horses.

His swordsmanship was as fluid and flawless as ever.
I should learn from him.

“This… this isn’t what we were told…! We heard the knight stationed here was some useless loser who’d been demoted!”

“That’s pretty harsh. Though… I can’t completely deny that, I guess.”

Senior Road chuckled wryly as he bound the men with a rope-shaped magic tool.

All that remained now was to call in backup and hand them over, and the threat would be dealt with—for now.
