Magic Demonstration and Experience
“What’s a zombie?”
“It’s when dead animals or people go ‘Uwaaah’ and come attacking you. Mom used to say, ‘Don’t go outside in the dark at night because zombies will come out,’ but… are there none here?”
I ended up using the “Secret Technique: Mom Said So” in response to the Guildmaster’s question. Sorry, Mom! Maybe this world doesn’t have zombies?
“Ah, you mean undead. What you’re describing sounds more like ghouls. They don’t usually appear in towns—if they did, it’d cause an uproar. But in old battlefields or areas where miasma gathers, such monsters are certainly common. And as you said, holy magic is the most effective against them.
That said, the everyday light spell we use has no offensive power, and I’ve never heard of it being used to defeat ghouls.
Which makes me wonder—what element is the light spell? Perhaps life magic isn’t connected to any elemental attribute… And come to think of it, this training ground too… I’d never questioned it since all guild training grounds are made this way, but…”
The Vice-Guildmaster drifted into his own little world.
Maybe it’s natural to not question things you’ve grown up with and used casually? I remember I never questioned using chopsticks despite everyone else using knives and forks when I lived abroad. Thinking back, that was quite a skill.
Even languages are strange—there’s that myth about the Tower of Babel and how gods scattered languages so people wouldn’t come close to divinity again. For an island nation like Japan it makes sense, but on a continent, with no visible borders, it’s odd how languages differ so much.
Right now, I’m wondering why, because I have memories from a place without magic. But when I was three, I happily practiced magic without questioning it.
“Haha, fascinating. I thought I understood magic better than anyone in this village, but it seems I’m far from it.
Miss Vio, I’d like to investigate life magic and reinforcement magic a little. May I take some time to look into it?”
The Vice-Guildmaster seemed to have sorted out his thoughts and came back to reality. I’d love to hear what he finds. Maybe that Magic Academy place can help?
Oh, by the way, Dad and the Guildmaster had long since given up thinking about it since they’re “instinct-based magic users.”
“Now then, could you show me the unusual magic Edel mentioned? What kind of magic was it?”
“Maybe… recovery magic? I just focused on getting rid of foot fatigue from walking a lot, so it might be a little different.”
Thinking back, it was totally different from the Vice-Guildmaster’s recovery magic. It was more like the Hot Reflex treatment. And technically, it wasn’t even magic in my old world.
Since I wasn’t tired, we decided to use the Guildmaster’s legs—he always complains about sitting all day.
“Um, it might get wet if I mess up, so could you roll your pants up to your knees?”
Thicker pants might block the warmth. The Guildmaster looked confused about removing clothes for a healing spell, but obediently rolled up his pants while sitting on a bench. I had him take off his socks and shoes too.
“Okay, I’ll start.”
I sat on a little box in front of him, casting the Hot Reflex magic while Dad and the Vice-Guildmaster stared intently at his legs.
(He’s an adult, so I’ll make the water spheres a bit bigger than I did for myself. Same temperature, three spheres per leg.)
My magic was smoother than this morning’s attempt, and three water spheres wrapped around each of the Guildmaster’s legs from three angles.
“Huh? What the… Whoa, this is warm…”
“Okay, I’ll move them now.”
I pressed the water spheres against his legs, slowly pushing them up towards the backs of his knees. The way the spheres squished and slid reminded me of cute cartoon slimes.
“Oh! Oh! Wow, that’s… incredible…”
“Can you describe the effect? Do you feel recovered?”
“Recovery? Hmm… Whoa, it feels amazing! Oh, right there—ahhh!”
Now that I think about it, I was like this too after my first massage—groaning from unfamiliar sensations. Probably his first “massage” experience too. He couldn’t even form proper sentences, but the Vice-Guildmaster looked a little irritated not getting a coherent answer.
When I pressed behind his knees, the Guildmaster let out an especially loud groan. Seems like that area was stiff.
Let’s make the second round extra nice—with vibration! I ran mana through the water to make it gently vibrate. The spheres returned to his ankles, massaging upwards again.
Magic Demonstration and Experience
“Oh… oh… ooh~… this is amazing… kinda ticklish… but it feels really good.”
The Vice-Guildmaster, realizing it was pointless to ask any more questions, sat down beside the Guildmaster. Dad seemed totally fascinated by the rippling water spheres, staring at them intently.
“All done.”
I ended the magic when the water spheres reached the backs of his knees on the second round. The spheres vanished without popping, leaving only the Guildmaster with a blank, dazed expression.
Yep, that’s exactly how you feel after a good reflexology session.
“So, how was it?”
The Vice-Guildmaster asked in a slightly lower tone, prompting the Guildmaster to snap back to attention and sit up straighter.
“Ohh, that was a kind of bliss I’ve never experienced before.
Wait, hold on.
So, in conclusion… this isn’t healing magic. But… my legs feel light and refreshed, the tiredness is gone… so I guess you could call it recovery?”
The Vice-Guildmaster raised his eyebrows but then fell deep into thought at the Guildmaster’s conclusion. Yeah, I knew it. It’s definitely not the same as the Vice-Guildmaster’s healing spells. This magic doesn’t heal wounds. The refreshed feeling is from improved circulation—natural recovery.
“Do you want to try it too, Vice-Guildmaster and Dad?”
It’s something you have to experience to understand, so I offered. The Vice-Guildmaster immediately rolled up his pants and removed his shoes and socks with a huge grin. But Dad looked a bit hesitant.
“Dad?”
"Now, are you sure your magic juice will hold out? You've already dipped into that enhancement spell, and that training magic twice, and now this one too. If you cast it on us as well, that'll make four times. Won't you be plumb tuckered out?"
Good point. But honestly, the first time I used enhancement and Hot Reflex, I felt like I used a lot of mana and time, but the second time it activated smoothly and barely consumed any mana. If only I could see status bars or something—seems like those don’t exist here.
“I’m not sure… are there any signs before mana depletion? Do you just collapse suddenly?”
“Well, normally, you get headaches, hunger, thirst… and if you keep using mana past that point, you’ll feel nausea, dizziness, and eventually faint.”
Oh, so that’s why Tony was so out of it after almost losing control and depleting his mana.
“Then I think I’m fine. I don’t feel any of those symptoms. I’ll stop if I do, okay?”
Dad looked reassured and started rolling up his pants and taking off his shoes.
The Guildmaster was still rubbing his legs, mumbling, “Man, I really feel refreshed.” That’s exactly what I aimed for, so I’m glad it worked.
Turns out, I could handle doing it on two people at once without a problem. Just had to adjust the number of water spheres.
Dad had sturdy legs, while the Vice-Guildmaster had lean ones (his calves were covered in shiny, neat scales), but the water spheres fit perfectly and worked evenly.
The Guildmaster, now sitting between them, looked at them both in shock—though just a while ago he was making similar expressions. The Vice-Guildmaster even sat up midway to poke and stroke the vibrating water spheres, marveling at them.
By now, with the third round, I had set it to operate automatically after deciding on the initial flow. I didn’t have to constantly channel mana, so I joined in, poking the water spheres massaging Dad’s legs.
They were pleasantly warm, slightly squishy, yet didn’t burst, and vibrated gently as they moved up the legs. There were no balloons or barriers, yet they maintained their shape. It didn’t even make anyone wet. Mysterious, right?
The texture was like something wrapped in edible film—if I could lie down on a bed like this, it would definitely feel amazing.
When the second round finished, the water spheres vanished automatically, leaving behind two dazed grown men. Anyone walking in on this scene would definitely get the wrong idea.
The Guildmaster, who snapped out of it first, looked awkward. If you realize it looks weird, maybe you should help the others snap out of it too.
