Sightseeing in the Royal Capital - ???'s PoV
I work as a servant at the Margrave Lampail's townhouse in the capital.
I used to be an adventurer, but after hitting a wall in rank progression, I stumbled upon a servant recruitment notice. On a whim, I went for the interview—if you could even call it that. The Q&A lasted all of five minutes before moving straight to practical testing—basically a rank-up exam, but my opponent was a stunningly beautiful maid. The guy before me got knocked out instantly the moment he let his guard down.
Somehow, I passed without getting KO'd.
But being a servant here isn’t just about housework. It’s also about being part of the Lampail family’s "Shadows."
Today, the master returned after a long absence—this time, with his children. When Young master Noel arrived at dawn on that white horse, I almost mistook him for a visiting prince. And the young lady? Utterly adorable.
When she headed out to tour the city with Young master Gene, another servant and I were assigned as covert bodyguards.
First stop: Gene’s favorite skewer joint. The young lady handed something to the owner.
"Hey, what’s she giving him?"
"Dunno. Oh—she just gave him more. Better note that for the master’s report."
He scribbled it down.
Next, they hit a fresh juice stand, a jet-brewed sandwich shop, then a general store and bookstore—nothing noteworthy to report.
Finally, they went to a high-end café. We took seats behind them, blending in.
There, they ended up sharing a table with one of Gene’s classmates—a boy named Eric Adams—and a girl around the young lady’s age, Belle Burst.
More names for the conduct investigation list.
Belle was painfully shy, stumbling over her words. Most people would’ve lost patience, but the young lady listened without a hint of irritation.
Turns out, Belle’s hobby is training. At first, I assumed it was just a casual interest—until I saw her lightning-fast body blow to Eric’s ribs. Definitely skilled. Report that too.
Apparently, other noble girls mock her for it. Can’t say I’m surprised. But the young lady? Not only did she not laugh, she casually mentioned she trains too. Then she dropped this gem:
"Let them talk. What you do is your choice."
It reminded me of what my buddy Ben once said—"Her words saved me."
"I heard the Young lady’s skills are irregular, but her mindset’s different too, huh?"
"Yeah. Rumor is she treats servants and private soldiers like family…. But seeing her today? She’s just a good kid."
"Agreed."
By the end, she and Belle were already friends. Befriending someone that fast? Isn’t that risky? (Report it anyway.)
But the real shock came when—
After being gently denied a second slice of ripple pie "You won’t eat dinner.”, the Young lady declared, "I’ll run home to work it off!"
“"…… Huh?!"”
Sure, they came by carriage, but the noble district’s on a steep hill. Even Gene pointed that out, but she insisted—and got her pie.
Predictably, the moment they left the market, she sprinted.
"Wait—the carriage pickup’s right there?!"
"She’ll burn out by the hill."
We tailed them, but… her pace never slowed. As dusk fell, the streets emptied—leaving only the sound of two kids sprinting uphill.
"Hah… hah… Sh-she’s really six?!"
I could only nod.
Somehow, she made it to the estate without stopping. Gene collapsed at the gate, gasping, while the Young lady—completely fine—handed him water from… somewhere.
We slipped in through the back gate, dousing our heads under a faucet to cool off—
Out of nowhere, Young lady appeared before us
"Good work today. Here."
She handed us towels, ice-cold water, and… candy?
"Oh, that’s salt candy. It’s a bit salty, but you need electrolytes after sweating. Make sure to lick it properly!"
With a bright smile, she skipped inside.
“… She knew we were following her? But my skill didn’t detect her noticing us!"
"Probably. At this point, nothing about her makes sense."
The water was refreshing, and the candy—slightly salty but sweet—somehow eased our fatigue.
Later, I asked my buddies Mike and Ben. Turns out, the young lady trains under Nancy (my terrifying interviewer) and Old Madam Lindsey (former Royal Guard Captain).
No wonder she’s a monster.
Being a servant here is tough, but… it’s way more fun than adventuring ever was.
And honestly? I can’t wait to see how this irregular Young lady grows up.
