Nursing
“Meow, meow…!”
C-crap! He saw me!
W-what do I do… am I gonna get yelled at!?
No, if it’s just yelling, that’s still fine!
What if it’s like that other guy before, “You suspicious monster, were you aiming to attack me while I slept!?”, and he tries to kill me…!?
I can’t count on Valdo to bail me out this time either!
At the awful thought, my ears flattened and my tail drooped limply.
“Miya… miya…”
I shrank back on the bed, trembling, and cautiously looked up at Carion’s face.
But unexpectedly, Carion just stared at me in silence.
He didn’t try to grab me, and I couldn’t feel any killing intent.
We stared at each other for a moment, then, finally, he let out a quiet breath.
“… This blanket… you pulled it over me? No, there’s no way a monster would do something like that…”
“… Nyaa.”
I let out a small, hesitant cry, trying to say yes.
“… Was that supposed to be an answer?”
Carion looked at me closely, clearly confused.
I meowed again, then padded along the side of the bed and moved closer to his pillow, peering into his face.
A thin line of sweat ran down his temple, his hair sticking to his forehead.
“… What are you trying to do?”
I stretched out a paw and gently pressed it against his forehead.
Well, paw… hand… whatever.
“Myaa.”
This time, I added my other paw too, pressing both of them softly against his forehead.
Carion’s ice-blue eyes widened.
“… Don’t tell me… you’re trying to nurse me or something…?”
His body stiffened slightly, I could feel him catch his breath.
His forehead, against my paw pads, was shockingly hot.
Hmm… maybe he’s running a fever because of his wounds.
I really wish someone would notice and come soon…
Actually, wait, why is no one else in this house besides Carion?
I hopped down from the bed and hurried over to the door.
Then I scratched at it with my claws and started meowing loudly.
But Carion let out a groan and turned his face toward me, glaring.
“... Quiet. Keep it down. I just sent everyone away, you’ll give me away.”
“Meow?”
Sent them away?
As if answering my question, Carion spoke with a sigh.
“… I just dismissed my subordinates earlier. If they stayed there looking like that, hovering at my side, I wouldn’t be able to relax…”
Well, that’s a surprise.
So the reason no one else is here… is because Carion himself told them to leave.
I stepped away from the door, then hopped back onto the bed.
I sat neatly by his pillow.
Carion stared at me in astonishment.
“… This is surprising. It almost feels like you actually understand what I’m saying.”
“Nya!”
Of course I do!
Still, I can’t believe Carion sent his men away himself.
Well… I kind of get it. That guy chopping firewood earlier looked really shaken…
Carion probably sent him away out of consideration for his feelings.
And if he “just” dismissed them, then no one’s coming back for a while.
… Alright, decision made!
If that’s how it is, then until someone comes back…
I’ll take care of Carion myself!
