Living a Crafting Life While Making My Classmate Cosplay and Taking It Easy in Another World
Summoned to another world as hero candidates.
Kurose Kaito and Shiraishi Ayane were brought along with “useless skills,” and abandoned by their classmates.
Kurose Kaito and Shiraishi Ayane decide to survive in this new world together. Deep in the forest, Kurose aims for a slow life using his skill [Craft], which lets him create anything.
Meanwhile, Shiraishi Ayane supports that slow life with her skill [Cosplay], which allows her to gain the abilities of whatever costume she wears.
With the strongest combination of [Craft] × [Cosplay], can they survive in another world and prove wrong the classmates who mocked their “useless skills”?
Thus begins the tale of two classmates in another world.
Useless Skill
When I opened my eyes, I was in my own room.
“Was it… a dream?”
No. This wasn’t a dream—it was a memory of something that had really happened to me.
I’m Kurose Kaito… Summoned to another world as a Hero Candidate, with the unique skill called a Useless Skill.
But since my so-called “Useless Skill” made me worthless as a Hero Candidate, I was cast out by my classmates who were summoned along with me.
So I decided to live a slow life in the forest, taking it easy in the other world I had dreamed of.
“Well then, guess I should head through the forest to the town.”
… Though, maybe later. A cast-out like me probably wouldn’t be welcome anyway.
Even from here, the town looked lifeless, like a funeral procession.
“Well, maybe this gloomy other world actually suits me better.”
Clatter… rustle… step, step, step, step, step…
Suddenly, noises came from behind. I turned around, but no one was there.
Suspicious, I looked again—and spotted a familiar face.
“Shiraishi-san?”
Standing before me was a flashy, cheerful-looking gal with blonde hair.
It was Shiraishi Ayane.
“Kurose!”
“What’s wrong? You’re always the class mood-maker and super popular. What do you need with me?”
“Hey! I was kinda thinking, maybe you could take me with you?”
Her words left me with a strange feeling. Why?
Why would Shiraishi Ayane, so adored by everyone, want to follow me—
me, the one branded as useless and thrown away?
“No, I refuse.”
“Huh?”
“I want to enjoy my slow life alone. And if someone popular like you tags along with me, who knows what the others would say?”
“I want to go with you, Kurose!”
“Why though…?”
“Because! Because! I was mocked and cast out too, for having a Useless Skill! So… I figured, if it’s with you, I could make it work!”
Apparently, Shiraishi had also ended up with a Useless Skill and was cast out by the others.
I figured I’d talk later about how I’d been exiled myself.
“I see… But still, I want to enjoy my slow life alone. And if someone popular like you follows me, who knows what the class will say?”
“I know I can make it work with you, Kurose! And besides, I was called useless too! They threw me away like trash!”
Her anger didn’t fade.
But… I had to ask something that was nagging at me.
“Hey… is your skill really useless?”
At those words, she snapped.
“What… It’s true! My skill is… [Cosplay].”
[Cosplay].Well, that was… certainly a questionable skill.
“I see… well, that’s fine then.”
“It’s not fine!”
“Okay, okay, calm down…”
“I can’t calm down about this!!”
“I get what you’re saying, but I don’t really mind. Even if it’s a Useless Skill, so what?”
“...…”
Shiraishi lowered her head, as if deep in thought.
“You know, I used to feel the same way as you, Kurose! At first, being laughed at hurt. Being told my skill was useless made me so frustrated. I wanted to fight alongside everyone else too! But… now it’s different. Even with a Useless Skill… maybe someday… it’ll turn out to be useful after all…”
“… I see.”
Shiraishi looked like she was about to cry. She must’ve been remembering a lot of things.
Silence stretched between us. Then I made a suggestion.
“Hey…”
“…?”
“Let’s go on a journey together.”
“Huh?”
She blinked in surprise at my words. But soon, her face lit up with a smile.
“Yeah!! Let’s go!!”
And so, the two of us set out on an adventure together.
