Defective Kai Chairs
After leaving my subordinates to handle things after those men departed, I headed to the shop to speak with the owner.

“Is the shopkeeper here?”

“Yes, oh~ Captain Luke. What brings you here? Just keeping watch as usual? Thank you, as always, for keeping the town safe.”

“Yeah, don’t worry about that. It’s our job. More importantly… I want to ask about those two men who came here earlier with a small child.”

“You mean those men from earlier? Well… it’s embarrassing to say, but it seems the Kai Chair they bought from us was defective, and they said the child was injured because of it, so I paid the treatment costs.”

“What? A Kai Chair?”

“Yes… is something wrong?”

“No… it’s nothing. I’ve heard enough. I’ll be going now.”

A defective Kai Chair…?
At the time, I figured it couldn’t be helped. They sell that many, some defective ones slipping through wouldn’t be surprising.

But a few days later, those men showed up again. Different appearances, different children, different shop, same act.
And every single chair involved was a Kai Chair. There’s something going on behind this.

“They’re repeat offenders.”

“Captain Luke, what should we do after they leave? Follow them like usual?”

“Yeah, do that. Like always, I’ll talk to the shop owner. You follow them again and investigate what they do afterward. And don’t forget to talk to that child from earlier too. Well, even if you look into it, it’s probably the same trick as always, but report back later.”

“Yes, sir!”

After they left and I saw off my subordinate who went to follow them, I made my way to the woodworking shop they had just exited to question the owner.

Just as I thought.
Their method is being repeated to collect treatment fees. But even calling it “treatment fees,” it’s not much money.

There’s no doubt they’ve been repeating this scheme. I’ve already gathered everything.
If the money isn’t even that much, why go through all this trouble? Even disguising themselves?

But one thing became clear…
Recently, there have been multiple cases of Kai Chairs “breaking,” each followed by small compensation payments.
Because the amounts are small, the shop owners don’t make a big deal out of it.
That’s why it took so long for it to come to light.

And now, the rumor is starting to spread:
“Kai Chairs have defects, and children have been getting hurt.”

Bad rumors spread fast. Especially ones about children getting injured.
If that kind of talk spreads, no one will buy them anymore, and only the bad reputation will remain.
Their goal… is to spread a negative image of Kai Chairs?

My doubts turned into certainty.

Those men will receive punishment befitting their crimes.
Anyone who harms the Marsh family’s business… will be dealt with accordingly.

We move to capture them, tonight!
