A week has passed since the subjugation of the High Ogre.
Since then, it seems that the security along the main road has improved.
I say “seems” because I haven’t heard this directly.
“So, for now, there haven’t been any sightings of higher-ranked monsters. Once we resolve the issues within the Adventurers’ Guild, the city will operate normally.”
“Melanie, Is it okay for the Vice-Guild Master of the Adventurers’ Guild to say that?”
Yes, our subjugation of the High Ogres brought the conflict between the Adventurers’ Guild and the Trade Guild to the forefront.
By solving the request given to us by the Trade Guild, the Adventurers’ Guild now has an obligation to make payments to the Trade Guild.
However, the Guild Master of the Adventurers’ Guild refused to do so, leading to a complete halt in communication between the two guilds.
This includes the ordering and settlement of escort requests, among other things.
As a result, adventurers couldn’t take on requests or receive payments, and merchants couldn’t request escorts from the Adventurers’ Guild.
Well, adventurers just couldn’t take on escort requests through the Adventurers’ Guild.
They could still make requests through the Trade Guild, and if adventurers applied for those requests, they would be fulfilled.
Payments could also be made through the Trade Guild, and as long as they went to a larger city, there was always a Trade Guild available.
It has become customary for members of the Trade Guild to make escort requests through the Trade Guild before passing them on to the Adventurer’s Guild.
This incurred an additional cost, but when it came to settling payments through the Adventurers’ Guild upon the completion of the escort, most merchants prefer using the Trade Guild’s account.
Otherwise, they would have to deposit money with the Adventurers’ Guild or carry the payment for escort requests with them.
Normal merchants don’t want to deal with such a hassle.
The problem is that requests received through the Trade Guild don’t count as achievements for adventurers, and some smaller towns and villages don’t even have a Trade Guild.
Adventurers need to accumulate a certain number of achievements to rank up, which is determined by their rank.
These achievements can only be increased by taking on requests through the Adventurers’ Guild or defeating monsters appropriate for their rank.
Just like in my case from before, defeating monsters that are too far above your rank doesn’t count much toward your achievements, and achievements from requests outside the Adventurers’ Guild don’t count at all.
That’s why adventurers want to take on requests from the Adventurers’ Guild, but now, due to the conflict between the guilds, requests from the Trade Guild don’t make their way to the Adventurers’ Guild.
Therefore, adventurers are stuck taking requests from the Trade Guild directly.
The second issue is more severe, and it appears to be causing problems for escort requests in smaller towns, post stations, and villages.
Orders made through the Trade Guild require achievement reporting through the same guild.
For now, they seem to be managing this by categorizing it as a round-trip escort, but it appears that this issue needs to be resolved quickly.
“In the end, the Adventurers’ Guild just needs to make payments to the Trade Guild, right?”
“Well, externally, that should suffice. But internally, there are various actions that need to be taken, like the removal of the current Guild Master and even confiscation of personal assets.”
“So, it seems like the dysfunction will continue for a while?”
“There are members among the guild staff who would have a problem if the current Guild Master were to disappear. There’s quite a bit of resistance.”
I see, it seems that factional disputes happen everywhere.
It’s quite troublesome.
“But all of this is expected to be resolved by tomorrow or the day after.”
“Really? Is there a plan to resolve it?”
“The Grand Master from the Adventurers’ Guild Headquarters in the Capital is coming. Once that happens, both the current Guild Master and the staff will have no choice but to comply. My own fate is hanging in the balance as well.”
The Grand Master is the highest authority for all the Guild Masters in the country and acts as a unifying figure.
They rarely make appearances, but in cases like the current situation, they intervene.
In any case, I hope they resolve the issues in the Adventurers’ Guild soon.
Due to a notice from the Trade Guild, my shop is currently prohibited from operating, as it might be a target of retaliation from the Adventurers’ Guild.
Even as Melanie and I speak, the area around my shop is being guarded by sentries from the Trade Guild and the Wildcat Claws.
By the way, Talat was stuck in between Melanie and me.
