Debut Party (7)
After that, we spent some time exchanging ideas about what could become Vardmoi’s next specialty product.
Personally, I’d prefer it to be some kind of food, but transportation seems to be the main bottleneck.
They asked if it would be possible to make insulated bags using Talat thread, but since it can’t handle precise temperature control, that’s not really feasible.
Yeah, it doesn’t look like an easy thing to pull off.
“Sorry to interrupt your lively discussion. May we join you?”
“Oh my, Lord Sazaby, Elder Bastaraf. Please, go ahead.”
“Mm. First of all, Lily, congratulations on becoming a Platinum-ranked Merchant.”
“Thank you, Lord Sazaby. And I assume you’re here to discuss opening a branch of the Saltas Company in Darshe, right?”
“Y-yes, so you’ve heard from Plum, then.”
“Yes. After consulting with Alizée, we’ve decided to establish both a branch and a residence there.”
“I see! A residence as well! Wonderful news indeed!”
Hmm… it’s not like I’m moving there immediately, though.
I wonder if Lord Sazaby realizes that.
“Father, it’s fine to get excited, but won’t the choice of location for the residence cause some issues?”
“What? We’ll just build it in our Blastie Autonomous Territory—”
“That won’t do, Sazaby. No jumping the gun, remember?”
“But I’m the current Grand Duke…”
“And that’ll only last a few hundred more years. After that, it’ll be that girl from Aliulus’ line.”
“No, that’s…”
“So, looking ahead, I’d recommend the Aliulus Autonomous Territory, ruled by Aliulus’ daughter. It’s a domain of the Flowerfolk, known for its many kinds of blossoms and the nectar harvested from them. You’ve been relying solely on that universal dye for coloring clothes, haven’t you? It might do you good to learn some natural plant-dyeing.”
Plant-dyeing, huh… that actually sounds kinda nice.
But I haven’t met the ruler of that Aliulus territory yet.
When I mentioned that, Elder Bastaraf said with confidence that he could bring her here in a few days.
Truly dependable—as expected from someone capable of intercontinental teleportation.
“Well, Father, before we worry about where to build a residence, shouldn’t we first decide where to place the Saltas branch? What exactly are your expectations for the company, anyway?”
“Oh, right. I’m hoping Saltas Company will provide guidance in agricultural production. As for transport, our country has airships, so that’s no problem.”
I see, so they just want us to boost food production.
Well, the Saltas Company originally started shipping supplies to remote villages, so it’s not far from what we’ve done before.
If they’ll handle transportation, then we can just make sure to record everything properly and decide on profit distribution in writing.
“Understood. In that case, my request would be to import food items that can only be found in Darshe.”
“Hmm, fair enough. But how will you handle transport? Some items will need to be kept cool.”
“Ah, that part should be manageable. If we line part of a ship’s hold with Talat spider thread, that area will function as a refrigerated storage space.”
“Earlier, when you spoke with Marquis Vardmoi, didn’t you say that wasn’t possible?”
“It’s only impossible on a small scale because we can’t fine-tune the temperature. But on a larger scale—like a ship’s cargo hold—it should work.”
“Alright, understood. We’ll let the administrative staff handle the details. My main request is to borrow a few of those Kiblinki Saltas monsters for agricultural guidance.”
“And I’d like some of Darshe’s specialty goods.”
“We’ll have the staff finalize the terms based on these policies. Is that agreeable?”
“Yes, thank you very much.”
A branch in Darshe, huh? I’m finally becoming an international merchant.
There’s going to be a lot to do—like gathering the Kiblinki Saltas—but still, I’m operating on a global scale now!
What do you think about this chapter?
Start a nationwide school system and expand the business into another country. Lily sure will get her hands full.
Thanks.
