The Day Before the Presentation
Lady Conniette and Little Bern had returned home, and after we went back ourselves and spent a few days, the long-awaited presentation party was finally about to begin.
This time, the party was going to be a standing buffet style, but special attention was being given to the desserts.
That’s because—amazingly—Lana’s whipped cream generator had been completed just in time!
Apparently, she’d even anticipated the possibility of it breaking down, so several machines had been prepared. They were all running at full capacity, churning out mountains of whipped cream.
I kind of wanted to ask, “Do we really need that much whipped cream?” But apparently, in high society, it’s part of the game to show off your wealth and extravagance.
If you ask me, it feels wasteful, but… well, that’s how it is.
There was a reason everyone was so fired up about this.
It’s because I happened to mention the idea of a two-tiered cake and a croquembouche.
This world already has whole cakes—of course, cream puffs too.
But the idea of stacking cakes into two tiers didn’t seem to exist, and since it looked fancy and festive, they decided to adopt it.
As for the croquembouche, the head chef had fallen in love with the illustration in the goddess’s cookbook I’d been looking through.
He was fascinated by the idea of stacking bite-sized cream puffs into a tall cone and sealing them together with caramel or sugar syrup.
Apparently, the chef had been planning to make both nearly two meters tall, but I had to stop him.
I told him, “Please don’t make food that can’t be eaten.”
Instead, we decided to prepare several smaller cakes and croquembouches, and since we’d also be serving other dishes using whipped cream, we were producing a huge amount of it in advance.
Well, it keeps for a few days, so it should be fine.
“Lady Lily, there you are.”
“What is it, Modalphas?”
“Yes. Princess Rodenlight has arrived—incognito. We had been declining all visits today, even from Marquis Vardmoi himself, but since she is royalty, I wasn’t sure how to proceed.”
“I understand. I’ll see her. Though—will my clothes be all right?”
“She’s traveling in disguise as well, and it seems she can’t stay long. She said she doesn’t mind your current attire and wishes to meet you right away.”
Hmm… sounds urgent.
What should I do?
I really hope it’s nothing troublesome.
But if she’s coming here on a day when I’ve refused to meet any other nobles, it’s definitely going to be a hassle.
Ahh… my mood’s already sinking.
What do you think about this chapter?
Perhaps something troublesome??🤔
Thanks for the update.
