Today is a rest day for the Parfe Ranch.
In other words, it’s any day except the Dark Day.
Lately, I’ve been curious about how the Parfes—who’ve been spending time with children every week—are doing, so I came to check in.
Turns out, there was absolutely nothing to worry about.

“Gugoogoo! (Kids are so funny. Just walking around with them makes them so happy!)”

“They’re not usually in environments where they can ride animals. The only rideable animals around are horses, but they’re not something ordinary kids get to ride—and even then, it takes training.”

“Goo~ (So that’s why they’re enjoying it so much.)”

“I think so. And it helps that there aren’t any other places in this city where kids can interact with animals.”

Vardmoi is a commercial city, not one that invests much in tourism, agriculture, or livestock.
Aside from a few scattered green spaces and the sightseeing route of the Parfe carriage, there isn’t much open space.
Even that small area must seem like a whole new world to the kids.
For them, their entire world is just the neighborhood they live in.
Tourism isn’t really a thing in this world.

No matter how well-guarded the highways are, monsters still show up.
Bandits can be dealt with, but monsters will never be completely gone—that’s just how it is.
Reality is harsh.

“Lady Lily, the ice cream prototype is ready.”

“Understood, Keuko. Well then, see you later, Parfe.”

“Goo! (See you!)”

The “ice” refers to the milk ice cream made from Parfe’s milk.
There’s nothing like vanilla essence in this world, so we couldn’t make vanilla ice cream.
Instead, it ended up being a simple milk-flavored ice cream.
We’re still testing various recipes, though.

“Oh, Lady Lily. How were the Parfes?”

“No issues at all, Alizée. And how’s the ice cream prototype?”

“It’s quite rich in flavor. Even without adding sugar, it has a natural sweetness. Adding sugar, on the other hand, introduced some off-flavors.”

“I see. What about the version with fruit juice?”

“We managed to finish that as well. It didn’t solidify easily, so in the end we used Master Talat’s silk to chill it.”

Talat’s silk... Oh, right—the silk from the Ice Prison Spider.
When it’s wrapped in coils, it cools the inside.
The amount wrapped determines the cooling level, so it requires a delicate touch.
But once made, it maintains a steady temperature and is durable unless something drastic happens.
Basically, we’ve created a convenient freezing device.
Although when we tried using it for a walk-in icehouse, people froze inside and it became unusable.

“Here’s the prototype. It’s already quite delicious—what do you think?”

“Let’s see… Wow, you’re right, it is good. The fruit-flavored one is great too. Can we make it in time for summer sales?”

“If we get permission to use Parfe milk, mass production won’t be difficult. And since the temperature remains stable once it’s made, that’s a huge advantage.”

That’s just how this spider silk works.
I wonder if that property stays when it’s turned into silk for fabric?
If it does, wouldn’t it freeze the person wearing it?

“For now, let’s limit Parfe milk products to the milk itself and this ice cream. Price them reasonably—not too expensive.”

“Understood. For other products, let’s wait for the engineers from the Isles of the Eight Gods. Even just these two will sell well enough.”

“When the weather gets colder, we can add cream stew. It won’t sell in hot seasons though.”

“If we can make cheese, we can offer gratin too. Let’s go ahead and order the kitchen facilities now.”

“Thanks. Still, everything related to Parfe is so peaceful.”

“There’s no competition in Vardmoi. There are no nearby dairy farmers producing milk either, so we can sell without worrying.”

Well, as long as it sells, it’s all good.
The sightseeing Parfe carriage is doing well too.
The Parfe business is solid.
