Talks with the Resistance
“I apologize for the blunder of my subordinates. I’m the commander of this area, Graf.”
When I demanded that the arrogant man at the city wall take me to his superior, he brought me to this person.
He doesn’t look like just a simple farmer or anything—what kind of background does he have?
“I’m Lily. I originally came to investigate the Resistance’s movements and return, but I ended up capturing the Third and Fourth Princes on the way, so I came to hand them over.”
“The Third and Fourth Princes, huh? If it's those two, they've already been executed in this town. Are they real?”
“According to what they said, they seem to be real. Also, they knew my face, and when my tamed monsters investigated, they turned out to be genuine.”
“They knew your face? Are you some kind of noble?”
“No, not at all. I just happened to have a chance to meet the royal family last winter.”
Hearing my explanation, Mr. Graf turned his gaze to the window and began thinking about something.
There was a sense of melancholy in his posture.
“You said your name is Lily. Do you think you could help rebuild this country with your power?”
“This country? You mean the old nation?”
“That’s right. To reforge the old nation into a single country again. That’s the will of Lord Varias, the leader of the Resistance.”
“Hmm, I think that’s impossible. From what I’ve seen, this entire northwestern region has taken a serious hit to its national strength, and outside of the north and northwest—which were in a civil war—the other regions have spent the past year building themselves up as independent nations. If you start preaching reunification of the old nation now, you’ll just get ganged up on by the others.”
“Even if you rally around the Third and Fourth Princes as figureheads?”
“They were the very reason the country fractured—no one wants them back.”
After I finished explaining up to that point, Mr. Graf relaxed his shoulders and drank the water from the glass on the table.
He really gives off that overworked middle manager vibe.
“I understand. I’ll advise them to give up on unifying the old nation. More importantly, what about rebuilding this devastated northwestern region? Do you have any good ideas?”
“Ideas? Like in the northern region, aren’t you suffering from a lack of manpower due to the war?”
“That’s true. Apparently, the incompetent Third and Fourth Princes thought they could just win the war and then bring back the northern men as slaves, but that ended up being just a pipe dream. What do you think we should do?”
“Hmm, even if you ask me... I’m a tailor by trade, so I’m not that familiar with agriculture—also, I don’t really want to get involved in the agriculture of another country.”
“Oh? ‘Another country,’ is it? So you’re involved in your own country’s agriculture?”
“My tamed monsters love vegetables. While defending the land, they’ve also been tilling fields and preparing to grow crops.”
“... That’s quite interesting. Would you be willing to leave those tamed monsters with us?”
“That’s a bit much for another country.”
“A shame. I’d really like someone as clever as you to become a noble.”
Lately, people are so quick to recommend me for nobility.
Not happening, no matter how much you ask!
What do you think about this chapter?
LOL, Lily really wants to avoid becoming a noble.
Thanks for the treat.
Uh, seems this bigger shot isn't big enough to prevent more violence. Now it depends on the rest of the heads of this rebellion, and how disciplined are the grunts. Then again the author might just pull a fantasy among fantasy peace from his rear just to end the arc.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! May God bless you!
