Movements of the Third Prince's Faction
Several days passed while I continued teaching Haniela the principles of double-entry bookkeeping.
Then one day, out of nowhere, I was urgently summoned by Marquis Vardmoi and the others.
Apparently, there was something they needed to discuss right away.
“Lily, thank you for coming.”
“I’m here. For now, I’ll take a seat.”
“Yes, please. But what’s the urgent matter?”
“It’s about the northwestern region controlled by the Third Prince’s faction. It seems the resistance has finally risen in revolt.”
What!?
Has the revolution finally begun!?
I hurriedly sat down and waited for them to continue.
This matter held significant implications for every faction involved.
“Alright, let’s go over the intel. I received the report that the resistance launched a large-scale operation just moments ago. However, the information itself was obtained about ten days ago. In other words, it’s already been ten days since the resistance began their movement.”
“Ten days? Duke Plafard, how much do we know about the current situation?”
“From what we can gather, it was a coordinated uprising with solid preparation. So, the battles in most cities are probably already decided. The problem is whether those results are favorable to us or not.”
Favorable to us, huh…
According to Duke Plafard, it would be troublesome if the resistance achieved a sweeping victory, and equally problematic if the Third Prince and his supporters survived.
If the resistance wins too decisively, they might carry that momentum into an invasion of neighboring nations. On the other hand, if the Third and Fourth Princes—or the dukes who support them—are left alive, the war won’t end. Ideally, the resistance should eliminate key figures and then suffer just enough setbacks elsewhere to keep things from spiraling out of control. That seems to be the true objective.
“So then, Duke Plafard, based on the information we’ve received, what’s become of the resistance?”
“All we know for now is that they appear to have successfully seized control of a border fortress. We haven’t received any further updates.”
“If they’ve taken the border fortress, then gathering further intel is going to be difficult.”
“Indeed. We’ve sent out spies, but they’re having to take long detours through lightly defended mountain passes. It’s going to take some time before they return with results.”
Yeah, espionage takes time.
It’s only because of my Kiblinki Saltas group and Plum’s subordinates that we’ve gotten used to things moving quickly in this country.
That’s not the norm.
Even if they ask for my help, I’d have to decline—and it seems Duke Plafard and the others don’t intend to rely on me either.
Still, I’m curious to see how the resistance is moving.
