The Kiblinki Saltas Settlement
The day after arriving in the Oxit Barony, I was taken to the location that the Baron Oxit had designated as the residence for the Kiblinki Saltas group.
It was a flat plain about five hours by carriage from Oxit.
There was a water source nearby, so the environment wasn’t bad.
The Kiblinki Saltas probably wouldn’t mind being far from town, so I’d say it’s a pretty good location.
I wonder what they themselves think of it?
(Mhm, this is quite a good spot.)
“Yes. I selected the best possible location for you.”
(However, it might actually be too good. Baron Oxit, we’ll handle cultivating this land, so please find other settlers as well. With farmland like this, if we assign a few of us for guidance and security, a decent harvest should be possible. We don’t mind more difficult terrain either. While Talat is here, we can even create a new spring if needed.)
“O-oh, is that so?”
(If there are no pioneers, we don’t mind cultivating it ourselves, but with land like this, it shouldn’t be too difficult for humans either. We’ll make the fields, so you should attract people. You should also implement measures so people can settle in the village that will emerge here.)
“U-understood.”
Hmm, so even the Kiblinki Saltas aren’t comfortable with an overly favorable environment...
Or maybe they’re just thinking ahead toward future development?
There are quite a few Kiblinki Saltas brought to this land, so even if they split into smaller groups, it wouldn’t be too hard.
Is that what they’re factoring in with their statements?
I still don’t fully understand how the veggie spiders think.
(Are there any other candidate locations?)
“Well… there is a slightly colder area than here, but if that’s okay with you…”
(I’ve heard that for livestock, a slightly colder climate is actually more suitable. Take us there.)
After another three hours of carriage travel, we arrived at the new location.
This land was also quite fertile, but it did feel a bit cold.
Would that affect the growth of regular vegetables?
(Good. Let’s go with this place. There’s already a natural spring, so we won’t need to create a new water source. What kind of crops grow well here?)
“Let’s see… wheat is the main one. Beyond that, we grow a variety of seasonal vegetables. Our territory has a lot of regional variation, so the vegetables we grow also differ by area.”
(I see. Then the best approach is to plant various seeds and seedlings and observe what grows well. In any case, we’ll need to start by preparing the fields. How much land can we use?)
“You can use as much as you like here. It’s directly managed by me, and there are no other landowners. You can expand the cultivated area as far as you wish.”
(Understood. Then, let’s begin.)
Ah… he just told the Kiblinki Saltas they could use “as much as they like.”
How much are they going to till, I wonder?
Since we’re planning on doing livestock farming too, they’ll need to prepare grazing areas as well.
This place is probably going to turn into another huge Kiblinki Saltas village.
They seem to know their own limits in terms of how much land they can cultivate, but that range is several times greater than a human’s.
They can work fields many times faster than humans and harvest many times more.
When it comes to vegetables, they really are kind of cheating.
