Distribution to Other Noble Houses
A few days had passed since our return to Vardmoi from Galette County.
Marquis Vardmoi and his party had also returned safely, and there didn’t seem to be any issues.
Now, the main concern was where to assign the remaining Kiblinki Saltas.
However, by the time I was summoned by Marquis Vardmoi a few days later, that issue had already been resolved.
Apparently, the number of Kiblinki Saltas requested by each house had been finalized.
"Hmm, every house has only requested a small number."
"They are likely hesitant to welcome spider monsters into their lands. Galette was a special case because they had already interacted with them to some extent."
I see. That makes sense.
Still, one house had made a particularly large request.
This is… Baron Oxit’s family, where Little Moira lives.
"Ah, the Baron Oxit household? They’ve been struggling financially and couldn’t afford to hire guards. However, they can manage if they compensate with vegetables instead of money, so they requested a larger number. Also, they want to focus heavily on new land development and the study of new crops."
"I can tell that just by looking at this request. But… will they really be okay?"
"Baron Oxity is not wealthy, but their crops grow well. That part should not be a concern."
Hmm, is that so?
If Marquis Vardmoi says so, it’s probably true.
And if it weren’t, the Kiblinki Saltas present here would have reacted.
The final decision depends on whether they can supply enough resources, but overall, this number seems reasonable.
"Understood. I’ll take this request back and discuss it with the Kiblinki Saltas."
"I’m counting on you. Any surplus members will temporarily be assigned to duties in Vardmoi, but if we receive requests for reinforcements, I’d like to accommodate them within reasonable limits. Please inform them of this as well."
"Understood. I’ll take care of it."
With the meeting concluded, the next step was to coordinate with the Kiblinki Saltas—
But this turned out to be quite a challenge.
They didn’t seem to trust noble families they weren’t familiar with.
Now, what to do?
(What should we do? We can go if we treat it purely as a job, but we don’t trust the nobles in charge. Conniette was your acquaintance, and there were already senior members stationed there, which made it easier to trust. But a completely new noble house… that’s another matter.)
(This number is also a problem. Do they not trust our abilities?)
(Only assigning two of us for city patrol is unacceptable. Galette is small, so two of us are enough to cover it. Ideally, even a city of that size should have had four. If the other cities are also requesting only two per location, that’s going to be an issue for us.)
As expected, the Kiblinki Saltas had their own grievances.
Their main concerns were distrust toward unfamiliar nobles and the inadequate number of assigned members for city patrols.
They also took turns taking breaks, so having only two per city was definitely going to be a problem.
Would Marquis Vardmoi be willing to reconsider this?
It might not work, but I should at least go ask again.
What do you think about this chapter?
Thanks. 👍
