Off to the Skies
Everything was ready to go pick up the new Kiblinki Saltas.
The Tamers’ Guild had also provided a large number of familiar certificates and even sent a staff member, so there were no issues.
The only thing left was figuring out how to take off into the sky, but it seemed the Kiblinki Saltas had already thought that part through.
“So, we just get inside this net?”
We were in a grassland a little distance away from Vardmoi.
There, the Kiblinki Saltas had prepared a net for us.
(That’s right. As long as you’re inside, we’ll be able to transport you safely through the air.)
“Talat, you aren’t getting in?”
(I’ll be flying alongside the Kiblinki Saltas.)
Hmm… I was starting to feel a little uneasy.
But there was no point in just worrying, so I hesitantly climbed inside.
Plum and I got into the same net as Talat, while Keuko and the Tamers’ Guild staff member boarded the other one.
With that, everything was set for departure.
(Alright, we’re going. Try not to struggle too much.)
“Going… but how exactly?”
(Like this.)
The Kiblinki Saltas began releasing web from their abdomens, spreading it out like fabric. Then, they used that fabric to catch the wind, slowly lifting us all into the air.
Talat also imitated them, creating a webbed sheet with his spider silk to catch the wind.
We were rising higher and higher, but… how was this even working?
There wasn’t even a tailwind, was there?
(The wind? We’re substituting it with our magic.)
“Using magic instead of wind?”
(By releasing magic from the threads, we create an effect similar to wind. Rather than pushing magic outward, we use it internally to press against the threads—it takes a bit of technique, though.)
Huh, I didn’t know the Kiblinki Saltas were capable of something so precise.
Apparently, this skill was essential for them.
Without it, they wouldn’t be able to cross the sea when they split off to form new colonies.
That was honestly impressive.
While I was marveling at their abilities, the Kiblinki Saltas continued to ascend rapidly, eventually reaching above the clouds.
From here, they planned to fly straight toward our destination.
At this height, there was little chance of being noticed.
Even if someone did spot us, they’d probably just think we were birds.
They said they’d take occasional breaks, so we could handle meals and restroom needs then.
The first day passed with nothing but flying.
By the second day, a jagged mountain range came into view in the distance.
Its peaks extended above the clouds—just how tall was this mountain range?
(There it is. Beyond that rocky mountain lies our Whirlpool of Chaos.)
“So that’s where it is. No wonder Marquis Vardmoi didn’t oppose illegal entry.”
(If anyone tried to sneak into the country through here, it would be as good as announcing that there was something hidden in this area. We, too, would rather not have too many humans aware of our existence.)
“Yeah, that makes sense. So, has the colony split already?”
(The colony splitting happens around the end of the autumn harvest. It can occur at any time in autumn, but at this point in late summer, we should still make it in time.)
I see, since it’s still late summer, we’re safe.
Now then, I wonder how many of these new vegetarian spiders will come with us?
What do you think about this chapter?
Hmmm, how many of the young Kiblinki Saltas will follow Lily and be tamed.
Thanks for the treat.
